Hey,

Anyone know if any company makes a replacement butt pad for the No.5? Now, I don't mean a reproduction, but a modern pad that actually absorbs recoil. :) I suppose I could buy a pad and shape it to fit, but, ya know, I'm lazy.

Thanks, Steve

I think your chances of finding a no grind-to-fit pad for a #5 are a little better than me winning Loto 649. I didn't have one number right on the last ticket.

Actually at the last gun show I was at, there on one of the tables was a make your own No.5 kit being sold as individual parts. The butt pad was not a solid piece of rubber but had rectangular empty spaces on the inner parts of the rubber. Seemed soft. So someone out there is making a replacement butt pad. www.gunpartscorp.com sells one $13.60 us. Check them out.

Look for a scrapped butt stock at gun shows or from a parts dealer.

For shooting comfort, get a leather slip on/laceup butt cover from Buffalo Arms. I have them on all my crescent butt plate BPCRs. Yesterday I put 40+ rds of 500 gr BP loads through a 45-70 Shiloh Sharps from prone with no ill effects.

It has a gel pad in the sewn on leather base. Looks good on modern (like an M1 Garand) as well as period arms. Where I just want to protect the steel base, I remove the gel pad, especially on a hunting rifle where I don't want the added length.
