I see a few people looking for No 5 flash hiders but I don't see any for sale, Can anyone give me any idea of what they are worth?

The easiest and cheapest way to acquire one is to look for a cheap bubba. I recently picked up one that someone decided needed a scope and also didn't like the top wood or band. The fore end was cut off where the front band fits. The D&T was a disaster and looked like it had been done with a hand held drill. Then it was painted camouflage colors and eventually the mag was misplaced. The rear sight was a stamped Mark 2 which is the first one I have seen. The bore on this rifle was a disaster. Uncleaned after corrosive ammo use.

I picked up the whole mess for $60 and that was about a month ago. Since then I have seen two more in similar condition but the flash hiders had been bubbaed beyond repair.

The last one I saw was $150 in the wrap at a show about a year ago.

Was it a real, steel, English made one? Or one of the pot metal, junk, out of spec Numrich ones?

There are 2 variations of the Numrich ones btw, one for the actual No 5 and one for converting a No 4 to a fake No 5.

The bayonets won't even fit on them. Sigh. That would really blow after laying out the big bucks for one of the bayonets these days.

Even if you do find an original hider...removing the one on the barrel is a bear of a job. The pins don't appear to be removable...there is a hard to spot taper and they are a bugger to get out.

Best bet...sell what you have and buy one that already has a flash hider on it!
