Does anyone know why the sling is on the right side of the gun? Most guns with a side mounted sling have it on the left. On the no5 you can't use the sling for shooting and the bolt handle seems to be in the wrong place for comfortable carry.

That's a good point. I never thought about that but the implications are true: you can't carry a rifle very comfortably with the sling on the right.

I hunt with a JC on a regular basis. I find when the rifle is slung on your right shoulder the sling crosses the stock at 45 degrees and actually stiffens the rifle when carried. Of course a slung across the back would be no good and neither would a carry on the left shoulder (unless muzzle down) I use a standard Enfield web sling.

cheers Darryl
