Ok, i just was curious, why is it that the norinco sks's are priced the very same if not more somtimes than the russian ones, it doesnt make sence to me at all, the reliability and quality of of the two are not comparable. Even if the chinese one is new compared to a russian refurb just all the bad things I have heard about the chinese ones drives me away. Maybe the the norc are better than what people have to say about them, Thanks.

I only wish that my new-to-me Simonov would shoot nearly as well as the Norinco I sold years ago...but so far it's not even close.

John

The Chinese won't be as pretty as a nice Russian, but function just as well. The new shipment are Chinese military. There are junk Chinese models out there, but they are specifically made for the civilian market and not up to mil spec.

Also keep in mind that the Chinese ones are new, while the majority (all?) of the Russian ones are refurbs. Some people prefer a new gun to a rebuilt one, regardless of how the refurb was done.

maybe but the current chinese SKS are not norc (norinco) , they are unissued chinese military SKS.

x2 Woodbeef, My chicom from marstar indicates NORINCO as the maker on CFO transfer of ownership. Clearly this is to identify the name of the importer and not the maker as Norinco wasn't the manufacturer of the sks in the 50's-60's. I don't own one so the following is hearsay....But I've heard and read things about the NORINCO civilian models of the sks and it was more than enough to make me steer well clear!...I like the chinese...but I like my russian more!:D

To the original post, its all in marketing and availability. Many of the Russian models have history and collectability, as well as being attractive to look at. I've owned the civilian Norinco, have some Russian SKSs, and several of the Chinese un-issued military models. I think they are all good in their own way, and even though they all shoot a bit different, my two Chinese military don't shoot the same either.

You simply need at least one or more no matter how you look at it. Take your pick or just flip a coin. Get one.

Norinco is nothing more than a made up sales company for the Chinese Government. So these ones from Marstar could be Norincos,if that's who sold them to John.

john said norinco has nothing to do with this chinese shipment but im at a lost to explain why its registered as norinco to the recent purchasers, maybe its a CFC thingy.

curtton; I think you hit it on the head:D that's what I was trying to explain:p for lack of a manufacturer the CFC had no choice but to name the exporter/importer to whom the rifles fell into posetion as the manufacturer of the firearm. Please correct me,but I don't believe NORINCO was in business in the 50's/60's in order to have had anything to do with the manufacture of these rifles we're talking about, but rather gained some sort of go ahead to start a new production of this rifle for sale to external markets {north America} and the {commercial} sks was born. Perhaps John is getting his from another supplier in China but I believe THAT suppliers primary connection to the chicom and commercial sks is Norinco, it's a proprietary thing that works for the chinese government.

How much proof does one need to realize that the CFC has no clue? My registration says "Norinco" as well.

x another one.

I like my Russian more.

I recently purchased both Chinese and Russian SKSs (sight unseen) from Weimajack. The Russian refurb (Izzy 1954) is very very sweet in terms of fit and finish (F&F) .. and next no cosmo.. The Chinese SKS is indicated as Norcino on the CFO paperwork .. and appears to be a mid to late 50s manufacture. The wood and overall F&F is not quite up to the Russian.

Have not fired either yet.

Next good range weather day ... I 'm out there .
