just a thought on one piece base

where recoil is not a issue with 22s would it be possible to buy a one piece base and re drill either the front or back holes to make it fit my stevens 300 ? or make slots in the front or back

Maybe go to the Talley website. A good variety of rifle-specific rings, including an aluminum one-piece set-up that's often used on custom money-no-object mountain rifles.

I have their steel vertically-split rings (for the European dovetail) on my 1971-era Anschütz sporter.

I believe Prophet River (a sponsor) carries Talley stuff.
 
if it is a stevens 300 .22 I think the savage rails for the mark II from EGW will fit. Check their site and make sure to measure your reciever to make sure you get the right one. I just put a 20 MOA version on my markII and it is great!
