I just got home from my moose hunt. I had a bull tag and another guy had a cow tag. We hunted hard all week, saw loads of moose and deer. The last day of the hunt, a cow happened to come my way. I put her down with one shot from my 338 Ultra. The shot was around 50 yrds. The only part of the body I could get was her front sholder, the rest was behind a bunch of pine trees. The bullet broke the first sholder, went into the lungs, broke the second sholder and was under the hide. My load was 88grs of H4831sc, with a federal 215 primer and a 225gr Hornady Interbond. I thought with that laod she would have dropped on the spot, but she trotted off 50yrds and dropped dead. I was happy to get blood on a new rifle anyways, even if I did not fill my bull tag.

nice! must be sweet to get 2 adult tags for this area!where abouts you hunting in 49?I managed to get a calf on wed. then i had to shoo moma away-she went about 30 yards away and started eating maple saplings then slowly wandered off.

I was hunting in the Burk's falls area, our camp is off of Royston road{Spelling?}...

your just up the road from us ..were on bordeau road ,we've had our camp since '73 ,.we used to deer hunt mainly at our camp ,but in the last ten years or so the moose have really taken over.
 
One day we hunted a guys land just off of Pegs Mountian road, right by the Hwy. Wow, we saw 13 moose and 6 good bucks, loads of critters in that place.. It was all swamp and tag alders, but held lots of game. Our camp is right by Bartlette lake road and Royston road.
