Hi guys,

I just bought a RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme Kit. I only want to reload .308 for precision shooting, I already have a Dillon XL650 for pistol ammunition.

So let's say I want to spend another 800$ for dies, prep tools and other accessories, where do I start any recommendations?

Your help is really appreciated.

The best money I ever spent was on the rcbs case mate prep center.

Buy yourself the Hornady bullet comparator and headspace gauges they will run you like $50 a pop. Also get the Hornady COL gauge so you can find where your lands start easily.

If you're going to be shooting a lot, and RCBS Chargemaster is awfully nice to have, although it will gobble up quite a bit of your budget. A decent powder measure, trickler and beam scale are fine too, just slower.
As others have mentioned, Forster dies are very nice as a start (or maybe all you ever need) until you discover what individual dies you might want to add or change out.
A 3-way cutter (trim, in/out chamfer) is nice to have for whatever trimmer you go with.
Measurement tools as mentioned.
Concentricity gauge.
Primer pocket tools.
Chronograph if you don't already have.

Of all my tools, the one that would drive me crazy to be without is the ChargeMaster. I can't stand waiting on a beam scale to settle or trying to observe it from the exact same position every time.

In regard to case prep centers, take a look at the Franklin Armory Platinum series. It trims, chamfers/deburrs and cleans primer pockets. Many of the other motorized prep centers don't trim.

Have to say that a Chargemaster is where I'd spend my money. There are lots of tools that you'll accumulate over time but charging powder is one of the most tedious tasks, and one that you need to do for each round. Even trimming you'll only need to do occasionally (even though it's a pita).

What do you think of the Redding Premium Deluxe dies set?

Not worth it... unless you want generic neck and FL sizes.

Better off deciding what kind of ammo you want to reload.

If for hunting ammo, the FL sizer with micrometer seater is a better buy (master hunter sets). Theres a cheaper set as well that doesn't have the sleeve in the seating die.

Precision ammo you should probably get a bushing neck or FL set... and I'd still suggest the micrometer seater. I generally avoid neck sizers now unless I am after the most accurate ammo possible... and even then the difference is negligible for most shooters (myself included).

I used to buy the deluxe sets... and almost always have to buy more specific/precise dies for the calibers I shoot often.

Hope that makes sense.

RCBS Chargemaster, Redding FL die, Lee Collet neck sizer, Forster Ultra Seating die, RCBS collet bullet puller die, Lee Quick trim tool, Lee crimp die if you crimp.

Everything I bought as a set I only use partly. For example, I have the Redding Deluxe set, I only use the FL sizer, don't like the seating die as if has a built in crimp, don't use the neck sizer. Got the Lee Ultimate die set, I don't use the seating die and FL die in this one, but I'll use the neck sizer and crimp tool if need be.

Forrestor micrometer seating die
Redding body die
Lee collet neck sizing die with a couple different stems to play with neck tension

If you like bushing dies then Redding or if you have the patience, I would just get some fired brass to whidden and have him build you a die set

Make sure you buy a vld chamfering tool and not the normal one. I believe mine is a Lyman.

Thanks guys!
The more I reed about rifle reloading, the more I realize that it's not the same as loading for pistol... It's not always about the money. Each brand make better dies or tools at a different price point.

Dogleg is correct the Chargemaster is not fast, that's why I have two............With two there is virtually no wait time and they will keep you busy enough that there isn't enough time to use three...........or I would have three........
