Want to get into trap shooting. I always leap before I look and wondered if this would be a good starting trap gun for me? It seemed like too good of a deal to refuse, so here I am. Thanks for helping out an old hand gunner and a newbie shotgun trap guy! Jeff

Jeff, Can't advise you too well on trap as I shoot mainly skeet. (& not too well  )

I think most of the Beretta 68- series guns are a good choice. Many of the guys at our club shoot these & Brownings. I have a Beretta 686 Sporting ing 12ga & a 687 Sporting in 20ga. Both have been totally reliable & I enjoy shooting them

I think the main thing is to make sure the gun fits you & to keep your head on the stock & your eye on the bird. :D

Rod.

It's fine for trap. Put in a modified or tighter choke and have at it.

The gun is probably as close to an all round, good-for-everything over/under that you're going to find. You can shoot all the clay games and hunt upland and waterfowl with it.

Does this gun have an automatic safety (safety comes on when the gun is opened)? If it does you may want to have it deactivated. I like an auto safety in the field but hate them for clays.

If you don't have a manual for the gun. Here's a link to a PDF file where you can download a manual.

yep

Thanks Rod B for your input!
Thanks Claybuster for your comments and the PDF file-- I have printed it off and will be usefull for me in cleaning etc. Thanks
You gotta love you guys that share your wealth of knowledge with us new people to the sport! Hats off to you all!!!!!

Claybuster--- I do have 3 chokes with the beretta and the tool. full, Modified, and improved I think?? Do you normally have the same choke tube in both barrels or different? eg. modified in top barrel and improved in bottom barrel. Thanks again guys, Jeff

It depends what I'm doing. If you are shooting singles trap I'd put the modified in the bottom and shoot it. It is most common to shoot the bottom barrel first with an o/u.

If I were hunting with this gun I'd probably put the IC in the bottom and modified in the top. For skeet I'd get a couple of cylinder or skeet chokes and shoot the same constriction in both barrels. For sporting clays most of the time I have the same constriction in both barrels (IC usually works well) but there are times when it is different due to the presentation.
