I just got a Winchester 69a. :D It has a chrome bolt, trigger guard and trigger and it seems in pretty good shape.

Does anyone else have have a 69a and how do you like it? :)

It was supposed to come with a 3/4 inch scope but someone forgot to pack it with the gun so they're looking into it at the moment. Most likely I'll be putting a 1'' AO scope of some kind on it anyway as soon as I can decide which one. It seems to have had a peep sight on it at one time but it's not with the gun any more though the block that it slids into is still there (insert block?). It obviously looked like this... http://images.gunsamerica.com/upload/976642330-1.jpg
So does anyone know if anything would work in place of it? I think this one might but it's kind of pricey so maybe I'll just forget the peep sight part. http://www.e-gunparts.com/product.asp?chrProductSKU=726410A

Guess I should send a couple pics so here they are.

Don't discount using peeps with it. Kinda hard to tell from the pic which it is, but the front looks like a Redfield globe. Could be a Redfield at the rear as well. These old guns are very accurate with the peeps.

Looks like ya done good- a grooved 69-A. You can probly get lot's more help with the peeps elevator and slide question on the Winchester page at

The 69A is a great gun. I have a 75 which is basically a tube fed version.

The model 72 and 72A are somewhat similar too I believe. :)

The 72 is the tube mag version.

A 75 is the next step up in a magazine rifle like the 69.

A 69 is a great little rifle. all walnut and blued steel. I try to buy everyone I see for a decent price.

I have a 69, But my sights are way different, I have 4 holes drilled an tapped in the side of the reciver, two behind and two inforont of the ejection port, and the rear peep mounts to the gun in a cut slot just behind the ejection port.. the front sight is a redfeild.. Anyone have any different incerts laying around for it( its a circle now)

Mine must be a 72 then.

What is a decent price? What do they go for? :)

My grandfather used to compete DCRA with one in the 50's. He shot 5969 out of 6000 in BC for the national and tied for 6th with it. Lyman apeture sights. As accurate as the day is long. Only my father gave that one to my brother:( , oh well, I get the browning!!:p

Depends on the sights. With the Winchester factory peep, I would buy anything around the $150 mark, up or down depending on condition. With Redfield or Lyman sights, I would go around $200.
With open sights, below $150.
These are very good prices, that I wouldn't hesitate to buy at. You will see them for up to $300.
Both of my 69A's came from dealers, one for $125 and one for $199.

That looks pretty nice diopter. :D

I was told my 69A is missing the Lyman 57ES, or EW rear peep sight on my mounting base. The numbers on the mounting base are a 26 and a Z, The original owner can't find the rear peep sight according to the store I bought it from. I'm not sure if a Lyman 57 which they still make would fit. Maybe I should contact Lyman. Also I seen a Lyman 57 W on ebay but was hesitant to buy it. And someone contacted me recently that has a 57 MS without an aperature disc so I wonder if I should consider getting it? I see they used the 57 MS on the Mossberg 44 rifle.

You must mean something else as the 75 doesn't have a tube mag but a clip like the 69A I've got a 75 and a 52B

Mine must be a bit older, not grooved for a scope. It came with Lyman target sights. I imagine that these rifles were intended for the old CIL sponsored Dominion Marksmen program. New magazines can be purchased; I got mine from Brownells. As has been mentionned above, these rifles shoot very well.
