Yea you are probably jerking the trigger. Forget the trigger, concentrate on the front sight, every shot should be a suprise. That's probably the best advise I have ever got pistol shooting. Your group looks pretty good though, is that from 50 or 100 yds?

BTW you can leave your STI with me while you are here. I will take good care of it...I promise

50 yards... damn I wish, lol

When I put the target the full 25 yards of the pistol bay I could hit the paper, but it was all over the page. I think it will be a bit befor I practice at that far. How far out does IPSC use? should I be practicing at the ranges 25 yards?

I will try the thinking of front sight and letting it be a surprise next time out. I think the firberoptic sight kinda pulls my focus as is, so I hope it wont take much to get past this jerking.

On occasion all the way out to 50yds, most typically 1-25yds. Many stages are 15yds and closer. I wouldn't concern yourself too much with that at this point, just get out and shoot! Take the BB course ASAP before you have a chance to learn all the bad habits your buddies are going to teach you. Lots of dry fire practice will help your brain learn nothing bad will happen when you pull the trigger and should help eliminate your flinch if you have one.

There is so much to pistol shooting I could write for an hour, but I won't.

Damn Jeff000, that is some impressive shooting for your first time with a pistol! Well done! I had the same problem with trigger jerk as you were mentioning with my first pistol. I bought a 4" model 29 S&W .44 mag. I was jerking the trigger so bad I couldn't hit anything from 10 yds. I cured this by buying myself a Ruger MK 1 .22lr. I practised regularly with it until each shot came off as a surprise. I still have that pistol to refine the basics of shooting, as they apply to any pistol you pick up, and it will cost you only a few dollars a box. You will be amazed how quick your groups will shrink, after only a short while. Welcome to pistols, it's always great to have someone new to the sport.
