A mossberg 590A1 SPX. Love it so far, can't wait to get it out for some shooting this weekend. Any suggestions for this particular model? Right now I'm just thinking a 1 round mag extension (it's a 18inch barrel) and a heat shield. That's probably as far as I'll go with it. I'm starting to wonder if I should of went with a maverick 88 and added the tacticool parts myself for the price though.

The Maverick 88 is a nice gun, but you can't add a mag extension to the mag tube.

For the SPX, a 1 round extension is definitely a good idea, you could also add a side saddle, Mesa Tactical makes good ones.

I'm more of a pistol guy but I seen this in the gun shop and couldn't resist. It's nice to be able to walk right out with your purchase without all this registry crap too. Does the one round mag extension work on a 18.5" barrel?

the 590 is a step up frm the Maverick, so a better choice if you're only going to have one shotgun. Should be no problem putting the mag tube extension on since its the 20 inch barrel that has the bayonet - will only depend on whether you like the look of it.

Ive had a 590A1 SPX for 3 years and it is by far the most sturdy, robust, solid firearm I own... also, I dont know about yours, but within the first few hundred rounds the action on mine slicked up to the point that it is like glass.

My only issues were weight and LOP... I got a hogue stock and forend for it and I love that... not much I can do about weight but i did get a good sling and that has helped.

I was not aware that the SPX was available in an 18.5" model, can you post pics?

Sure it's a crappy iphone pic, but you get the general idea. I didn't know an 18.5" existed either. This model doesn't have the bayonet.

Did you remember to call Mossberg so they can send you the double jointed thumb attachment needed to operate the safety on their pistol grip model ?

No I didn't. I didn't know you could, I can definitely say that was a big thing I noticed about this model, is the difficulty in operating the safety.

Now time to save up for a real stock, try the mesa tactical or NEA, ditch the china mart stuff.
Allso may want to look into an over sized safety if your going to stock with the m4 style stock, its bigger and easyer to use when under stress.

LOL Thanks for the laugh!

OP. nice looking Mossberg.

lol I just got the joke. I was even talking to my old man and said: "hey some guy on gunnutz said if you call mossberg they'll give you some sort of attachement for the terribly placed safety" good thing I didn't call mossberg yet haha
