Just chronographed my .223 load, what do you guys think

tested my .223 load today

they are

69gr SMK
24gr IMR 4320
rem brass/ not weight sorted
cci br4 primers

rcbs full length sized and rcbs seating die was used


2945 fps
2908 fps
2929 fps
2916 fps
2923 fps
2923 fps
2912 fps

max spread is 37fps

i was hoping to be a little faster then that (average is 2923 fps) but accuracy is my main goal, i thought i should be about 3100 with my 30'' barrel

is there too much deviation in this load, it seem to group well

i should get more brass and weight sort it, maybe try neck sizing only too

what do you guys think?

Every gun is different. If that is where they are the most accurate, those are the ones you want.

How full are your cases?

If your primers are still looking good try pushing it a little more by .2gr increments until you hit another node or you see cratering... If your happy with what your getting now on paper just let it be and look at other variables like neck tension and case volume.

Now would be an excellent time to invest in a Collet neck size die and a case neck turning tool... 2 tools that have taken my shooting hobby to a full blown addiction.

That is fast enough for 69 grain bullets. But 30" barrel, who knows, perhaps could be moving a bit quicker.

I would sort the brass by weight and work up in small increments to see if accuracy/SD gets better or worse. Accuracy is what matters. Velocity is whatever it is.
