This one is an homage to the SEI crazy horse, though built a little more inexpensively than a real full SEI gun. I've shown it next to my LRB receivered H&R GI build with NM mods.

The new gun's details:

Receiver: Re-manufactured Chinese forged receiver with an older style SEI NM marked narrow heel, rail stamped MESA, A Z and drawing numbers below the woodline.
Barrel: Fulton Armory 18.5" NM barrel, reamed to minimum SAAMI GO.
Bolt: LRB, lapped in.
Gas system: USGI TIG unitized
rear sight: USGI NM
Front sight: Older canadian-made 2ID SEI CH gas lock clone.
FH: SEI Vortex
Trigger assembly: GI mix of H&R and SA.
Mount: Sadlak Airborne
Stock: NOS GI fibreglass, selected for straightness and good nose tension
Op Rod: TRW
Op Rod Guide: fluted M14.ca

All the small bits not mentioned are USGI. Mags are older GI Checkmates that have been re-parkerized.

Gun is going to wear a Vortex Viper PST, I just need to go buy some rings.

Those are absolutely beautiful!! I have a very poor man's attempt at such a rifle, and efforts like yours above very much inspire a guy like me! Much of the entertainment of the m14 platform to me is the tuning and the build. Thank you for showing!

Claven , now we know why you disappeared for a while. slick build, waiting for grouping pics. the 20" is the one I lust for.

I didn't disappear, I just don't always post :)

Lately there have been far too many Stag10, BCL102, [insert NR AR-10 derrivative here] posts, which carry virtually zero interest for me, so I don't contribute.

To me they are not battle rifles, they are black rifles and should be over in that forum so we can get back to discussing real battle rifles here.

Very nice rifles, love seeing all those quality parts put to such good service! Are you using a pull through reamer to finish the chamber cut?

while I'm building a stag-10 ..... I totally agree with your post.
although, I think the stag-10, BCL 102 and Modern hunter, sporter/varmiter and that other mcabee thing..... belong in the hunting and sporting rifle forum , not the battle rifle or the black rifle forums.

I can get behind that - any forum but this one - lol. though the blued steel and walnut guys with Coopers and merkel doubles might not like them in their forum either ;)

steel and walnut....... while i have enjoyed building and shooting many tacticool m14 type rifles..... the top one in your pic is a beauty build and how a classic M14 should look.

Thanks. In truth, the bottom gun is not a lot different than the other gun, except it's un a GI glass stock, has a shorter barrel and different front sight, and omits the following NM mods:

-not bedded
-sling swivel not welded
-FH not NM reamed (obviously)

It does have a knurled and epoxied rod guide, match tuned FCG, unitized gas system, NM sight (rear). It should make a good shooter once I get rings on it and sight it in :)

This second gun is about as racy as I build for myself - I'm not into the tactical looking configurations, chassis systems, etc. I've built them, but not for myself.

OK, I'm calling this one done. Just added a Vortex Viper PST 1-4X24 MRAD on Warne steel QD rings. Sweet setup with throw levers that just clear the Sadlak mount. Works beautifully.

This is about as light as I want to go with an M14, it could be loghter with a trimmer scope, smaller brake, an aluminum mount and rings, but I like the rigidity of steel components and the break gives the rifle good lines. It also gives it the Crazy Horse look.

After deer season, I'll try to post some groups for anyone interested using basic Hirt milsurp so people can evaluate its performance with known quantity ammo.

Looking forward to seeing the range report!

I’m in the final stages of an IDF kit build right now, probably gonna use a sadlak mount to keep the irons on there as well. Might go with the QD setup you’re running, thanks for the tip.
