Hey all, well after a year of reading and thinking, reading and thinking and drooling over everyone else's guns I finally got a rifle capable of playing in the area of long range shooting. (No skillz, but now at least a gun)

Now all I need is that ARPA membership so I can make an a$$ of myself out west.

It's of course not a remarkable gun as it is a common intro set up, but it's mine now baby! Now excuse me while I go make pillow talk with it. "No your so shiny, no you, no you are, I know, I know, but your shinier.... :dancingbanana: " ha ha

Seriously though, thank you to everyone who gave advice to me and others on here as it made it a lot easier to plunk down the ~$900 for the package.

I like it ...got one or two similar :). Am I seeing things or is your bolt jeweled?

Sean

If you mean highly reflective, with a nice Savage logo on it (washed out by flash), then yes... If you mean does it have ruby's and emeralds in it, then no. :p If you didn't mean either of them, then here is a picture... I'll have to expand my gun vocab some more and figure out what jewelled means... :slap:

Congrats. Bed the action. Open the forend WAAAAAAYYYYYY up.

Load up some ammo and have fun.

I would also look at swapping in a hogue or limbsaver recoil pad. The factory Savage aren't the most comfy.

Lighten up the accutrigger. Maybe polish the bolt camming surface for easier openings. Simple stuff that makes the rifle rock.

It will get smoother with use....

I think you're going to love that rifle, I really enjoy my 12FVSS in .223 and wouldn't trade it for a Rem700 under any circumstances. When I cycled the action for the first time I was a little put off by how it felt, but like mysticplayer said, it gets better with use.

Since you bought the right brand, I can take you to Rosebud as a guest if you want to give it a work-out.

Even after I accidently clipped you in that other thread lol (it's been edited now, sorry about that). Thanks for the offer, but the next couple of weekends are booked up for me. I'm heading to the farm over Easter, so hopefully I can warm both the gun and my shooting skills up then.

I'm assuming the public range at homestead must get pretty busy once the weather gets warm, so I will most likely get a fullbore club membership. Perhaps we'll find that both of us are heading out one of these weekends and we can hook up and chat savage rifles :) . I also have the Mark 2 .22 Savage, it's a good gopher killer.

I picked up the same rifle in .243 this past fall. I LOVE it! I'll be out this weekend for some more load development.

I am a little jealous of the jewelled bolt though. Did you buy that used or new?

No probs, I like the aggro. The public range can be a zoo at times especially before hunting season. Full-bore needs more members it's a great facility and quite a few CGNers are members there.
