Its been all summer since ive personally owned an SKS. I bought one for my cousin for christmas, all tac'ed out, and it made me once again realize the simply beauty of this gun. I sold my VZ and all my corrosive ammo, but I still have 1000 rounds of non corrosive sitting here I just couldnt part with. So, I looked around at all the dealers to find a chinese military SKS... didnt want the stamped civi version and I didnt want a non chrome barrel. $230 later its in the mail.

Now I just have to decide what to do with this one. Im leaning toward the dragonov stock with one of those short 5 round detachable mags (that would essentially be permanent)... Maybe do a drilled and tapped side mount for an optic but leave the irons alone. Or, Ive played with the idea of leaving it wood, doing a 2 inch butt stock extension the side mount... still not sure. I really like the dragonov style and since this gun is likely going to spend most of its life in my safe I like that its plastic. But, this is going to be a cheap build so If I cant get that stock for a good deal ill just stick with wood.

just thought id post up my excitement. I missed the SKS.

^^ now that made me laugh. I don't find the ergonomics of the chinese stock fit me well at all and I can't shoot well at all with any stock iron sights. Guns gotta work for me to be at all useful right.

I have been flip-flopping for a while on purchasing an SKS from our local gun store to add to my collection.
And swapping the original stock for either the Tapco Timbersmith Thumbhole or Monte Carlo Laminate wood stock (preferred) or the ATI Tan folding stock.
I've been hesitating because it would divide up where my ammo money goes even further than with all of the calibers I have now. :(
