just bought a mr.ar15/fabsports/thompson 10/22 from a fellow flatlander here on gunnutz. AWESOME! people talked about the quality, but you have to see it first-hand.

been playing with it ever since i first got my hands on it. the promag drum i modified last week even fits perfectly. i've almost got it fixed, too.

my question is for anybody that may have bought one of these kits. does anybody have any ideas for modding/extending the bolt release? the factory control is inaccessible with the kit installed, and i have to say, its a feature i like having. thanks

Do you have installed the extented bolt release coming with the kit ?

I wait Black Dog drums and I think fit on the kit wihout modification

i've heard good things about the black dog mags, but i had to try. paid for the promag, had to try to make it work. its definitely not like it came from the factory anymore.

just my "prototype", so its kinda ugly. works a lot better though. thanks to a factory 10-round donor and some hours in the shop.

i didn't know there was a bolt-release option offered. i'll have to check it out.

lots of violin cases at my house, my wife has been playing for 27 years, and has quite a collection. she would freak if i chucked one out to make myself a case. maybe i'll just put the thompson in one of them, so when she opens it up in front of one of her students, she'll get a surprise.:D

just finished some more mods. didn't really care for the sight setup, so i fitted a front blade to the compensator. also extended the bolt handle, because the body of the kit has some crisp edges. the other thing this needed was a sling.

going to check out the height of the front blade this weekend, should be good to go. matched it up with the front sight that came with the kit and allowed for extra, as the rear right is adjusted as low as it can go.

and i bought a helmet today so i can look cool when i'm shooting:rolleyes:

You make me proud.:D. That is one fine looking Thompson... I mean 1022.

I must say, that finned barrel really does makes it all come together and I really like the bolt handle. Its almost exactly the same as mine.

Keep up the good work.

hope you don't mind me butchering your product:D. i got the promag working flawlessly, although it only holds 46 now. also working on a functional stick mag that will hold 25-30. just working the bugs out. dang rimmed cases!

the last thing i need to do is figure out how to get the bolt release working with the kit in place. i want to make it like the lever-style mag release on a real thompson, but i'm reluctant to start drilling holes in the kit. we'll see. maybe if you do another run of them, i'll be able to get another so i have a backup in case i wreck it. or maybe i can get it to work with the "selector".

*sniffle*

I miss it already.

Love the blade though...looks to be mucho better than the original setup. Not that it didn't work alright to begin with, but this should make it much easier to focus on the front sight.

Don't wear the helmet too long...they've been known to shorten your neck. :p

Your not butchering my product, your butchering your gun:p. No, you are doing neither but you are doing a nice job and you look like you are concerned that what you do will be done properly. Thats nice to see.

Now with respect to the bolt release, I did look at a design that would work with what you presently have. The problem is, it would have added $50 to the price of the kit and the kit price was already getting up there. There is a replacement part for the Ruger magazine release that allows both release of the mag and the locking back of the bolt. You first need to install the "auto bolt release" plate that can be purchased from some of the 1022 internet store in the states. Then you replace the mag release with this "part". When you push it forward the mag drops. When you pull it back, the bolt locks in place. Here is the web site where I found the design.

Look on the right side of the web page and you will see the part. It just needs to be lengthened maybe an inch and it would work in the Thompson kit. But as I mentioned, they are rather expensive to make. This fellow was offering them for $40 or $50US and that's expensive. But you could always buy one and knock it off but make it a bit longer to fit the Thompson and then your ready to rock and roll.

Good luck and keep us posted on how you make out.

John
