When compared to the general fit, finish, and feel of my '39 Tula, I can totally understand why these are often considered the best Mosin Nagant rifles out there. Just amazing. No range report yet, but judging by the way the rifle shoulders (compared to the Tula) I can see how this would be a stable platform for shooting. Very nice. Very very nice. I may have to inform my girlfriend that there is another love in my life ;)

I am a believer!

Looks nice. Only MN I have is an ugly Finn M27, but hey, its matching with minty bore.
Geoff in Victoria,BC.

Well Geoff, any time you tire of that M27, just let me know and I'll reminf you of my mailing address... ;)

I just bought a 1944 Sako M39 that I have to pick up this week. Going to try and pick up an M28 that was there too. But the M39's bore was the nicest I have seen on any MN in a long time, still bright and full of rifling with no pitting.

Hearing Greendoh's comments makes me happy and content I got an excellent deal for $200 bucks.

Just a funny observation that often in searching for good specimens its hard to find rifles that look immaculate *and* have nice bores, its usually one or the other. This M39's finish is a little worn but the barrel 'righteous' in the opinion my Gun Store, while a 1939 M28/30 had the nicest finish but a dark and ever so slightly pitted bore.....it's always a toss up buying old milsurp!

Bittermansbro - Sounds like you got a steal at $200!

I can say that without a doubt, the build quality of the M39 is far and above the best I have ever seen in any Mosin Nagant. Everyone who is a fan of the Mosin should own one to round out the collection.

Except that they are uncommon and relatively expensive as Mosins go ;)

this thread forced me to fondle my M39 today. She needs exercise methinks!

Hey that begs the question, *are* they uncommon around CAN? And uncommon compared to what? M1 Carbine uncommon, M1941 Johnson uncommon or Boer War Mauser uncommon? (Just trying to get a better idea)

What's the usual going rate?

going rate is USUALLY from 300-350$ sometimes a bit less. In Canada they are in OK supply, but we could always use more!

they used to be REALLY rare until collector's Source brought in a few dozen last year. They are currently available, but will be pretty uncommon again soon once all hte retail level ones are gone.

Before CS brought them, they were $500 guns. Now, at retail, they are in the $350-450 range. Once the supply is gone, expect the price to top over $500 b/c there are more Mosin shooters in Canada than ever before and this is the best model, so....
