Just got my first 10/22! Did I forget anything?

Well, after joining the forum just to look for a BPS for my girlfriend, I stumbled across the rimfire forum and started reading about 10/22s. They sound so fun, I finally cracked last night and headed to LeBarons and grabbed the rifle model. I tried for the compact and the basic but they were out of both.

Got some CCI Stingers, Remington .22 Target and a cheap box of 500 Winchester Xperts. I can't wait to get out and try it, hopefully before my VQ stuff gets here so I can really appreciate it that much more.

I ordered a bolt buffer, target hammer, mag release, bolt release, extra ruger clip and edge extractor. Total $94.80 US + $283 CDN so about $400 total so far. I'm going to try to jewel the bolt by hand or maybe like this.

My plan is to first upgrade the receiver cheaply so it's at least easy to use and then, in a year or so (depending on what kind of accuracy I can squeeze out of the factory barrel), get a nice stock and lightweight bull barrel.

I'll see what kind of groups I can get with open sights but I think I'll be in the market for new optics soon too. Something that works well for grouse and rabbit but can also hold its own on the range.

Sorry if there's nothing new in here, just a long way to say thanks to everyone for all the info in this forum and I can't wait to post some pics of my future ultimate :)

First thing you should do is ditch the barrel band and try to bed and float the barrel.

Try many different kinds of ammo. You might be suprised with the difference each brand makes!

If you're like most, you'll find the accuracy out of the stock barrel a bit disappointing. You might get lucky though, and get a good shooter!

the more ammo you'll try the better....
I have a recipe if your rifle will refuse to cycle subsonics.... but you must try with the bolt as is first.

Post the pictures when you're done .... it should look nice.
 
You will probably want the standard mods
Bolt buffer
VQ hammer
extended mag release

And get 1 or 2 bricks of the cheap federal bulk ammo and grind them though before you do any serious accuracy testing, the action needs to break-in some.

And don't forget a self re-setting steel flipper target one the best $40 bucks you can spend, great fun with semi 22's.
 
Congrats on the 10/22. Welcome to a new addiction. Sounds like you have most of the necessary upgrades needed. Good luck and welcome to the club.
