Just got my remington 870 26''. It is currently owned and stored at my friend so i can go hunting with him. Still waiting for PAL to go trough so we can do the transfer eventually.

Where is the best place to buy ammo online ?

It is obviously my first shotgun so i would love to try stuff like skeet shooting but i am also planning on hunting duck, this week end.

What kind of bullet is required for skeet/trap shooting ? duck hunting ?

Thank you :)

I was aware of the lead/steel thing for ducks. i believe i am also only aloud having 3 cartridges i believe for duck hunting.

Any website you guys use to order from that is cheaper ?

ps: thanks none ;)

You can't buy ammo without your PAL... Your buddy can buy it & hold onto it with the shotgun, you can use the shotgun under his direct supervision until you get your PAL.

Is your 870 a 3.5 inch chambered gun? If so, I use Winchester Xpert or Remington Sportsman steel shells, shot size #2, going 1550 fps, with 1 & 3/8oz of shot. I use an Improved Cylinder choke, which patterns like a modified with the steel.

For upland and trap or skeet, the cheap 100 round packs of shot size 7.5 work fine. Again, I use Improved Cylinder because I hunt over dogs & shots are close.

Good luck, have fun!

Cheers
Jay

Don't buy any Winchester Target bulk packs until you know if they'll eject or not. Try 1 box first...you'll know right away if they work.

Federal and Remington target shells work well in mine.

No, I believe it is 3'' max. Only the magnum express was 3.5 but it was a bit more expensive. I only wanted something cheap for now to give me the hang of it. As i said previously i am waiting for my pal so i know it should take long enough untill i can get a restricted firearm. And i always wanted to have a pump action gun :)

The good thing is that I can go hunting with my friend but he has to be a max of 1 meter away.

I hope my pal wont turn into a horror story with crazy delays.

Well, youve got an awesome shotgun there! Congrats. Unfortunately, you wont be able to hunt with it or buy ammo until you have your PAL. You can shoot it for fun though, aslong as your friend with the PAL is there with you, and transports it to and from the location. He can certainly buy the ammo too.

You might want to look into that. Even with a hunting license, I'm not sure you can hunt with a firearm without a PAL, even if he is right there. I think the gun useage without a PAL extends only to recreational shooting. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though.

I can't remember for certain, but I think it's something along the lines of 1 pal, 1 gun.

135er, I hate to rain on your parade, I really do... but you should double check that you're legal to hunt with a shotgun before going out. It would suck to get charged with an offense when you're so close to having your own licence.

From my understanding, since you have a hunting licence, you can be there and shoot your buddy's gun, but I don't think you can both be carrying shotguns as you both are not licenced. He is suppose to be supervising you, so no shooting for him while you are.

I may be wrong, so do check into it.

Just checked online. It was Alberta Regs so there may be different provincial interpretations. The question was answered directly. Yes you can hunt without a PAL but the term used is arms length to the PAL.

I remember that term here in Ontario as well.
Any specifics on how many guns can be out with 2 guys when only one of them has a pal?

Just went back and checked that page again and there was nothing specific to number of fiearms in use.
