Well I got a nice surprise from the mailman today. It is an Norinco NP28 1911 in 9mm high cap. I thought it might be too large for my hands but it fits ok. Since it is Tuesday and I have a CHAS membership I decided to go to Phoenix gun range and try it out. I have to say that it is not as accurate as my M213 but I have yet to work on it.

These are pictures out of box and I have to say it is a good looking pistol.

These are after I installed the 1911 muzzle brake

It replaced the barrel bushing, pretty simple install.

Now I'd like some suggestions on what to modify / add to this project pistol. I'm thinking nicer grips to start, what do you think?

Ditch the grips....

Ditching the stock grips on a Norc 1911 style seems to improve the look, too.

Congrats on your acquisition, though, I'm sure you will have lots of fun with it.

NAA.

Wood grips would definetly classy it up a lot. But even the best of the best won't compensate for the uglifying of that compensator. It's only a 9mm for gosh sakes. Be a man, take it off... :D

Some wood grips intended for a single stack may make the wide frame feel too fat. If so then sanding them thinner from the back side or making your own from some thin slabs of exotic hardwood would not be all that tough. But it may require that you shorten the mounting screw bushings.

I just got my NP28 the other day. I love it, I am thinking of getting Armco to do the upgrade on the trigger. but it shoots stright and feels nice. Does anyone else have one? What should I have done to it?

Nope, no response at all. I am thinking of sending it to Armco for their $100 tune up. I ordered a new grip since the stock one is just wrong. I would like a new hammer I think but am not sure of a good one. Nobody has any suggestions on these guns?

I have one as well, I notice regular 1911 grips fit..but MAKE sure its a SOLID one, the grip holes are not perfect, so if you ise a plastic one, it may bulge, but for sure, SLIM!!!! the stock rubber one is so thick.

BTW, i notice there is a notch on the right side for Ambi Safety, has anyone done this yet?

is true... the bushing compensators are so wide (to allow clearance for barrel and even more) that gazes escape just as if there was no compensator.
However, given the size of your compensator, it might compensate the jump by the added weight at the muzzle.

a bushing TYPE compensator that threads on the barrel does work however because the compensator is just a few thous bigger than bullet diameter so gazes HAVE to escape by the ports.

All I know is that I have been getting PMs and being told in person how much of an improvement they are getting in groupings. Maybe it is the weight, but something is working.

I put a Asimons MB on my Norc, 1911 in .45, its a pussy cat now compared to the stock config. recoil.

A definate improvement, it does add some weight up front. I am not sure it has tightend up my groups at all, but they haven't gotten worse...... I can still put 8 into a 6" circle at 25yrds.

Cheers!
