So I just got my rpal today and I was looking at the forms. My divorce should be final this month or next. I have not talked to my ex in about a year and I don't even know where she lives. What should I do? I have bought a gun with in the last year but it was a non rest. My pal is due in 2010 so do they count it from when my ex left or from the divorce finalization?

Am I screwed either way? Any suggestions?

Isn't there a section on the application where you can sign swearing you don't know the whereabouts of your ex?

Well, way to go there ... :D traded in a woman for a gun.

Like I've always said, there's no better way getting over an old flame then with a new one. Literally in your case. :)

About your concerns with licence renewal in 2010, I wouldn't worry. The CFO did after all issue to you an RPAL recently. Keep your peace and all will be well.

well, look at the piratical side of it. how will they know what date you used? the form is very unclear. If your wife actually left you a year ago use that date. what they are looking for is the emotional trigger caused by a divorce. use your best judgement and be prepared to back it up.

Eh - answer it truthfully and send it in. They don't seem to care a bunch, you'll get a request for info, call them, if you don't sound like a raving lunatic on the phone, they'll ask some questions, confirm your eye colour (??) and you'll be on your way..

I think it says within the last two years... so you might be OK. I went through my divorce several years ago and got my rpal renewal recently. It asked that question about breakdown in realationship and all that but it was suppose to be within the last two years. My ex had no say in this renewal; and it does have a part where you can swear that you don't know where she is. (I no longer know where she is anyway...)

The last time though I needed her to sign in. I was working for an armoured car company at the time and needed it. She signed it. She had just recently left at that time, so it could have been bad. I never treated her badly though so she knew she had no reason not to sign it.

Do not call the CFC.

When I applied back in the summer I called the CFC and spoke to them. Since my ex and I have been apart for more than two years I did not need her as a "conjugal partner" reference even though we're still LEGALLY MARRIED.

I did use her as a personal reference however.

With mine, I put my ex wife as a reference, but they didnt count it from the time the divorce was finalized, they counted it from the time we seperated. Because I had not been living with her for 3 years, they said it didnt matter. I'd just call the CFO for Alberta and ask them about it, the guy was pretty friendly about it all when I talked to him.

My PAL sat on some-one's desk for 9 months because she did not sign it and they could not get a hold of her. I was separated for a year at the time. On the application there is a spot that says to write an explanation on a separate sheet. Do it and staple it to the application. If she wanted to be nasty, she could say she was afraid of you and your PAL/RPAL is gone. They even have a link when you call the CFO for an afraid spouse. Be honest, but follow up on it. I chased mine down to a person's desk in Edmonton.

If you got separated over two years ago but are not yet divorced then you can truthfully answer that you have not had a separation or marriage breakup in the last two years. That's the case I found myself in. Had no questions from CFC.

When I asked about converting my PAL to a RPAL, I was told to submit a new application, and pay the fee which would extent my licence by five years. Now that was two years ago so I do not know what the current policy is.

..The funny thing is, while being married so happily and having dozens of shootin irons on hand.(which the CFC will know) Why, all of a sudden during sour moments in a relationship, a pal renewal will turn one into a heinous murderer....of course this is an assumption.( Obviously, contravenes the Charter of Rights). Isn't it sad state of affairs when when ones hobby can be extinguished by a nasty ex wife and a bunch of donut wielding chronic welfare do gooders with a friggin spousal concern. I'm not sure, nor i have i heard of any one ever being saved by someone calling in, or denying ones applicant over a spousal concern. I guess the point in this case is that you can't shoot a spouse with a new gun...it has to be an old one.
