I just got some Brenneke slugs in the mail. can't wait to try em out. They don't look like much though, does anyone know the muzzle velocity of them?

I got some 440 gr 2 3/4", 1 1/8 oz 2 3/4" and some 600 gr 3" magnums. Do they perform better than regular forster slugs?

From my understanding, the Brenneke's are just a harder alloy with better penetration. Do challenger's offer any improvement over forster rifled slugs? What is the best slug out there? (for smoothbore shotguns)
 
Fosters are not very good in most guns. Brenneke and Challenger slugs are attached wad slugs that can be very accurate in a smoothbore. I have not shot Brenneke slugs but the Challengers clover leaf for me at 50 yards.
 
I have used Brennekes in 12, 16 and 20 gauge. They are fantastic in smooth bore shotguns. They do cost more but I think they are worth it. I have used them on deer and black bear. Nothing larger. I would not hestitate to shoot a moose with them at reasonable ranges.

In my experience they are by far the most accurate slug in my smoothbores. I have been using the 3" 1-3/8 oz variety at claimed MV of 1600 fps.
 
I think (without a brinell hardness test) that the Brennekes are much harder than a US foster type slug. Still I feel that the fins will swage making them safe for full choke use. The felt base wad makes a very good gas seal. I would recommend that you sacrifice one and have a good look at the slug and attached base wad. (dimantle the slug) You will be impressed.

I get 5 inch 5 shot groups using Brenneke 3 inch mags at 100 yards with my 14 inch barreled Remington 870 using ghost ring sights .
 
If you shoot into a hillside you can pull the slug out and see the wad on the back held by a philps screw (finally a good use for them).

Will have to cruise by there and get some.
