Just got back frim my gun store. Seen a Chinese sks that i looked at. Internals are all matching barrel/trigger/bolt/charger i think factory 26 with serial number. Cleaning it now will post a pic when clean. After full strip looks like it wasn't fired yet. Is the normal?

It’s always hard to tell on commie rifles what is and isn’t matching. On my Chinese SKS everything makes but the mag, however some of it could have been restamped so it’s hard to tell

It's very easy to tell. If numbers are not the same, it means mismatching. Mags are usual culprits as due to our stupid laws they have to be pinned, so when these rifles get imported whoever pins them just swap mags after pinning without any consideration or effort to match same mag to matching rifle. So we get mixsmasters as a result

I'll put my Chinese SKS vs your SKS iron sights at 100m with junk ammo any day... so far when it comes to accuracy the Chinese blind online purchase on sale SKS is my best. With CanAm ammo groups 2" 4 out of 5 or better consistently. It loads modified stipper clips really well also.

The SKS challenge should be a thing at the range. Could have two types of competition one where everyone shoots their rifles or where everyone puts their rifle in a poll and draw one at random to shoot. In the random shoot, Everyone brings a SKS then each rifle is given a number and drawn or say using playing cards then each player(shooter) also draws playing cards and they take the matching #/face card rifle (ie rifle is Qspades- player Qhearts, or 7spades-player 7hearts)… Then the competition would be a best 3 targets of 4 targets, 20 rounds bulk ammo bullseye competition. This way everyone draws a random SKS and shoots iron sights. Military issue SKS only, all nationalities.

(modified by first placing 5 rounds on a stripper clip then, using a zip tie and laying it about half way down the bullet side of the clip compressing one full spring side with the appropriate sized zip tie then cover said zip tie with electrical tape. Thus you should have a stripper clip with 5 rounds space and the balance covered with tape and a pull handle that you can cut to preferred length.) This works better in Canadian light SKS's than having a ten round stripper of only 5 rounds that jiggle or 10 rounds that you plan to half/half.

/26\ 9mil = 1964.

Stock and spike bayonet are consistent for that year too. 1964 was the switch from blade to spike bayonets so guns made in that year had one or the other.

The side mounted srear sling swivel is also consistent with that

Nice catch.

Thank you. I was suprised with the matching internals only costed me 220

Chinese SKS rifles get a bad rap. Some folks claim they're inferior to Russian SKS rifles. IMHO, that's a false assumption. The only thing about Chinese SKS rifles that would make them better would be a higher grade of wood for the stock.

The thing is, those rifles weren't made to be pieces of art. The early rifles were built on Russian supplied machinery and built under Russian scrutiny. As mentioned there was a switch in bayo type. Chinese SKS rifles with proper early blade bayos will fetch a premium price.

OP, your rifle has been Factory Thorough Repaired. It was likely test fired at the factory, before being dipped in cosmoline and wrapped. It wouldn't be unusual for the internals to be matching IMHO. I've seen many of them that are very similar to your rifle with matching internals.

Chinese SKS rifles work and go bang every time they're supposed to, unless something is broken or assembled improperly. They are not tack drivers accuracy wise. They can be fiddled with to get sub two inch groups but that is more a labor of love than anything else. They can be dressed up and in the few I've worked on, the parts from any other SKS, no matter where they were built will interchange. Only one needed a bit of stoning to make the part work. Mostly, the parts are just drop in and go.

Some of the folks here know SKS rifles to the point of splitting hairs. No I don't have any issues with that. Your rifle is a great place to start collecting milsurp rifles. If you decide you want to collect/shoot SKSs, you will find there are a lot of variants and each of those variants has a story. Good way to pick up on history and how governments make decisions.

There are many people that have used SKS rifles under stressful conditions that preferred them over AK types. Lots of good reasons for that. They are handy, rugged, dependable and in a pinch make decent hunting rifles out to 150 yards with ammo they like.

One thing about them though, they can have some variation in bore diameters. a few thousandths of an inch one way or the other. Some will actually shoot .308 diameter bullets well.

The real drawback for handloaders is finding fired cases. The SKS flings the brass a long way after ejection. If you're shooting in a grassy area, hardly worth looking. If your shooting in one of those areas where the ground is covered in a mat of unpicked up cases, sorting them out is next to impossible. So, if you're not shooting surplus, which is getting more expensive the rifles aren't as cheap to shoot as they were a decade back, but what is?

Decent rifles all around, even the models with the press fit barrels. Your rifle's barrel is screwed in.

I would echo this sentiment. At first I scoffed at SKS rifles and bought the fancier No.4 and K98. I recently decided why not try an sks and my only regret is not buying one sooner. Nice light recoiling rifle you don’t feel mad about adding reversible mods to and fun in a nice semi auto caliber.

I have a savage .308 sub moa rifle for my long range needs. This sks is mainly for shooting. I had a sks before and sold it which i regret thus why i picked this one up. I took it shooting the other day and was very happy with it. Was able to hit a pop can at 200 on 2nd shot. I am changeing the stock out to a infusion this week. I dont plan on reloading just shooting the mil sup ammo which i jave a case of. I am reloading .308 though.

Your rifle has a chrome lined bore. You shouldn't have any issues with shooting corrosive as far as rusty bores are concerned. However, nothing else is chrome plated and needs to be cleaned accordingly. Especially the gas system, all the way through the gas piston. There will also be blow back gas on the bolt face. Likely you know this but it doesn't hurt to remind.
