Does anyone hereabouts shoot brass framed cap and ball revolvers? I am thinking of buying a used one but people keep telling me that the frame will stretch (or worse) and I should go steel. I can't see this personally especially for the odd plinking I would be doing - but what do I know - just looking for advice.

I had one for a while; the best target load is around 15 grains or 20 gr of powder and that will not damage the frame. When I shot a heavier load, it was not the frame that stretched but the barrel key that crushed. The key has a groove in it for the retaining screw. That groove weakens the key and allows it to be crushed by heavy charges. The key can be replaced by a home made solid one as long as you don't intend to use the retaining screw.

Properly loaded, you should experience no difficulty if the gun is tight to begin with (true whether steel or brass) The loads Mooncoon mentioned is what Pietta recommends for theirs.
The brass frame is real - The Pietta 1851 Navy is actually a replica of a Griswold & Gunnison wartime replica (Civil War) produced in the south to replicate the original 1851 for confederate troops.
