Just opened a svt-40 from under the tree. Shod I scope it? It has the grooves!

I was thinking on getting a scope for my svt-40 it has the grooves to mount one. I don't care about original parts I would prefer a new style scope with modern optics but would like a short scope to fit behind the action like the original WW2 scopes.

First, pretty much only a repro sniper mount can be put there but you still miss the sniper notch to secure the mount. The repro mount will only accept a SVT scope, repro or original, its an expensive setup and may not work perfectly(probably wont). Fews aftermarket mount have been made to slide on the grooves and accept weaver ring but thoses mounts are not available anymore unless you buy them used but i dont know if they worth installing. Scoping an SVT is not cheap, they are better with iron sights.

It has grooves, but does it have the notch? Without the notch it isn't easily scoped. You need both. I have 3 with grooves but not notches

I got excited when I got mine too when I opened the box and saw grooves. Then I saw no notch. Silly Russians trolling us! Have fun with it! I find mine likes the PPU ammo the best, but with all rifles, YMMV.
