Wanstalls ordered me in a Smith & Wesson 500 with the 8 3/8" barrel, hi-viz front sight, interchangeable compensator... just waiting for the transfer to take her home.

Just wanted to share...

I CANNOT wait to take it to the range :ar15:

I snapped a quick pic of it while I was in the shop today but haven't read what's needed to post pics here yet. When I get it home I'll be taking a few pics of it side by side with my 6" 686 so I will have to see how to post that.
I shot one in Vegas when I was down a few weeks ago, shot that, a .45/70 BFR and a .50AE Desert Eagle and liked the 500 the best.

You're in for a heap of fun. :D

Hope you got your set of reloading dies on the way already since that's about the only way you can afford to shoot it much.

The gun shows at Chilliwack and Kamloops are coming up soon and you should be able to find some brass, bullets and large rifle primers for reloading.

When I first started they information said to get magnum large pistol. But if you load up to near max even the magnum pistol primers will show signs of over preassure. I'm still using my pistol primers but I'm shooting the .500's from a TC Encore single shot so the over pressure doesn't phase me. In your case you'll need large rifle primers to avoid the primers puffing out and locking the rotation of the cylinder.... at least that's the word that I've come across. Of course if you're content to load down to less than full power then you can use the magnum pistol primers without any issue.

If you don't already reload then you'd best learn how REAL quickly.... :D Factory Hornady is up around $4 a pull. I'm reloading for just over a buck a pop even paying rifle bullet like prices for the jacketed 350gn bullets. If I can find a source for some other bullet to use or a mold for casting my own I should be able to get the price down a lot.

I do reload, brass, bullets (350 gr plated) and powder are in stock, I already have large rifle primers from loading for my .45/70 rifle. The dies and case gauge are about two weeks out so I picked up two boxes of Hornaday 350 gr hollow points to keep me busy until I can make my own.

Yes, factory is $3.75 a pull tax in. Loading my own, I am down to $0.52 a pull if I re-use brass or $1.19 with new brass including tax.

I know going plated bullets won't go as fast as jacketed but this ensures I can afford to shoot it and still keep the house. :)

BCRider, where do you shoot? I think I might have met you and shot that 500 handi rifle along with an old Winchester at RDRG

I use large rifle primers in all my loads.

With these guns either get into casting or get some hard cast lead projectiles to try out...

Factory barrels don't seem to stabilize them heavies till you give them some rpm. ;)

Load at the high end of the scale for good accuracy and hurtin on both ends....

yeah but it's the wow factor of lettin' loose 700 grains of lead from your hand....

The plated bullets are only good up to about 1200fps so I am going to have to look into some jacketed fun to get up to the 2,000+fps for some real kick

I think this is the most excited I've been for a new addition before..
