Nice looking' old rifle!! There is nothing like cranking off a clip of ammo out of a Garand. I have a 6 digit Springfield (1942, I think) that I take out when my soul needs a lift. I also have a Breda and a Beretta. Great rifles, real rifles! :p

I bought a M1 from P&S last year,..its a Harrington&Richardson M1,..overall im pretty happy with it..no rust or corrosion,..and a nice bore too.

I think your look nicer than mine..your stock looks mint...and your operating rod looks like new as well.

I think these M1's that Jean has, could be from Jordan,..as he mentioned that they were from a dry climate,..that explains no rust or corrosion

I striped it down and cleaned it just before takeing the pics. It had vertually no rust but alot of sand and dust was cacked in the reciever and trigger group. My hand guards don't match my stock, and the stock appears to be beach with no inspection catoshes. Also the butt plate looks practely new, but the srews that hold it in are heavely worn. The bore is nice and shiney so I'm sure she'll shoot good. Overall it was worth the price compared to some of the others I've seen for sale recently. Jean also through a couple of clips in as a bonus. Can't wait to try it out this weekend.

I finally got around to putting my first 8 rounds through my M1 today. I was shooting at 27 yards at some of my home made targets. I shot two four round groups the first one was about 3-4 inches low the second one I played around with a bit to get it shootin on target. Overall she shot really well and handled beautifully. I almost think I like shootin her better then my SKS or SVT. I can't wait till I start loading 30-06 then I can really put her through the paces.

Nice looking rifle... congratulations ... :)

In "The Screening Room" (click here)http://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=46, we updated the existing set of wartime U.S. Government produced Garand training videos (over 2 hours).

To the existing entry Rifle Marksmanship with the M1 Garand Rifle (1942 Training Videos and Companion Book), we've added a 1943 official training Film of the U.S. War Department, displaying the principles of operation of the U.S. CAL. .30 M1 Rifle better known throughout WW2 as the “Garand”. Signal Corps ordnance experts demonstrate the intricacy of the firing mechanism behind the most expensive and one of the best rifles of the Second World War.

U.S. CAL. .30 M1 Rifle (1943)
Video length = 15 minutes

There's some great material in this Knowledge Library entry for collectors who also shoot these old Garand vintage rifles, including a companion training book titled "How to Shoot the U.S. Army Rifle" and other articles on "Snap Shooting" and pics of the "Sighting Training Device".
