While I'm not a huge fan of the modernized lever actions, Ruger/Marlin did a fine job of delivering on this new Dark model (the first of more models & calibers to come). Some new things like the nitride finish on the bolt and lever to reduce wear actually make for a smoother action. I especially like that they included their own muzzle brake on this model.

Cool, looking forward to reading it! Very interesting rifle. Good lookin, too.

And the action screws are all Torx head now I see

Muzzle brake!? :slap:

Heck yeah, why not? Aside from the noise. Still just very sad we can't screw a suppressor onto them threads.

Lol, when the SBL first came out I looked at it and thought "Are you nuts? A stainless steel levergun? That's insane..."

Today, an SBL is one of my all-time favourite guns.

But...you want to put a suppressor on a levergun?

Are you nuts? That's insane...:)

Went through the exact same process!!

Betting once the can was on it we'd be like "it was insane NOT to do this!"

I really wanted a Marlin Dark in 38 Special but they have simply not been available. I ended up going with a Rossi R92, which I have built up to essentially Citadel specs. It's a fun rifle to shoot, cheap to shoot and operates very reliably. The one thing I don't like about it is the oversized loop. I'd kill for a regular sized lever loop.

Tons of people are going to buy these little lever guns in 45-70 and discover two immutable truths. They kick like a MUTHERFKR and 45-70 ammo is EXPENSIVE.

I would take a 38 special in a heart beat. will take a look at Rossi R92. thanks for the hint :)

I added an adjustable cheek riser like this as it is much better when using a red dot sight.

Nice review. Have a JM, the factory ported version, circa 1998-2004.

Really the 45-70 is such a versatile round. Run reduced/subsonic loads you can hand to a kid, trapdoor level, add....some....speed with the flex tip hornady, or stomper 500gr to just south of 458wm.

The "guide gun " moniker is somewhat misleading though. Old school, low velocity large bullet philosophy. It's going to pass 10ft through a 8ft bear, but at slow speed and low shock/energy transfer. Not the "stopper" rifle of a high speed large magnum.

If I didn't already own a 1895g, would I buy this one? Probably not, the fudd is stronger in me than the tactical mall ninja.

I Don't Care About You,

That's a freaking nice build man. Must be a great rifle to carry and shoot.

Totally on board with the small/ordinary size lever loop. Not a fan of the large loops either
