Just picked up a new CZ TS in 40 S&W. They made me an offer I couldn't refuse. My local gun store was making room for some renovations and they had some very heavily discounted TS's. They normally go for $1,300 to $1,400 and I picked it up for $800. Great deal. So my initial thoughts. Please note that I am not a gun techie so this is an impressions summary not a technical review.

Great accuracy. New to the gun and I could do 4" freehand groups at 15 yards repeatedly. I am sure it would be better of a rest.

Great trigger. Very light, very short takeup and reset. I would pay almost the price of the gun for that trigger.

It's a 40 S&W so significant recoil but very little muzzle flip. Recoil is pretty much straight back. Not an issue. Gun is quite heavy and has a 5.4" barrel with a full length slide. This helps control the recoil and flip. didn't do any double taps as I was getting used to the gun but my impression was that it will be very good. The very good grip feel with checkering front and back helps I am sure. Fills my hand very well.

Grip. The grip will only really suite larger hands. My hand is a size large and it fits perfectly. Any smaller and you might have trouble. The grip is a good shape and fits my hand very well.

Sights. Good but not great. Black with high post. Adjustable for windage only by drifting although fully adjustable sights are available. Gun was shooting about 1" left at 15 yards and a little high. I will shoot many more rounds before I adjust as it could be me but another guy shooting the gun did exactly the same.

Reliability. Only fired 100 rounds. One fail to feed but otherwise no problems. New gun so this is better than normal. Ejection of cases is very positive and consistent.

Magazines. Oh my poor thumbs. Very tight and they have sharp edges. Loading the last couple of rounds was torture. They are siting loaded right now to take some of the tension from the springs. Stupid Canadian 10 round mags with a plastic extension. Mutter mutter dumb Canadian gun laws.

Spares. It comes with spare slide stops, buffer pads, and cleaning barrel brush and patch puller.

Overall impression. I am in love. At the price I paid this is an absolute steal. The internal finish isn't as good as a SIG say but the exterior is very good. Not at custom level but pretty decent. In my opinion a nice looking full+ size gun. But then I like full size guns. Makes my 1911 seem a bit small. Oh and did I say that I love the trigger. If you can't shoot straight with this gun you can't shoot straight with anything. A friends $3,500 custom built race gun shooting 9mm and using a red dot sight is marginally more accurate, maybe 1'' better at 15 yards, but it has everything you can think of. All in all for $800.00 I am as happy as a pig in S--t.

I know the TS has been superceeded by a fully tricked out race gun but it is $3,800 and is really in a totally different class. Even at full price this is a great gun for the money.

I didn't know there was a gun store in Burnaby, used to live there but moved to the big city.
Sounds like you are happy with your new gun, how does the recoil feel compared to the 45ACP.
CZ is a good maker so you can't go wrong....have been humming and hawing about one of their 9mm's for quite a while but they seem so expensive even used.
If you shoot up a PCDHFC I am there Sunday afternoons most weekends.

I really like the gun.

Recoil is sharper than a 45ACP. Based on my reloading tables there is about 15% more powder behind the 40 so no surprise at the heavier recoil. The 45 has more of a push while the 40 is sharper. My 1911 has more muzzle flip than the CZ. Not sure of the numbers but I think the bore is a bit higher on the 1911 and the CZ has a better grip for me. Still love my 1911, after all it is a 1911, but the CZ is a more modern gun with the advantages that can go with that.

Wow. Great deal. When I buy a 40 that will be the one.

Wish cz tweaked it a bit though and made it in one finish and added an adjustable rear site and comp hammer. (But the site and hammer are easy fixes)

$800?? Sweet deal!!

I love mine. The looks, feel, accuracy.....:D
I have thin aluminum grips mounted to slim down the overall girth of the grip.
The only other thing I want to do is add FO front and adjustable rear sights.

Update time.

Another 100 rounds a few days ago. A couple of issues showed up.

I had a number of fail to feed issues with the magazines I had left loaded. Problem disappeared once I had reloaded the magazines. Moral don't leave mags loaded. I will see if this is still an issue after another 700-800 rounds. I don't tend to make any firm predictions until I have a 1000 rounds through.

Accuracy still the same although I found myself anticipating the shot on occasion. Not used to the more stout recoil of the 40 I guess. Just have to pay attention.

Now I have done it a couple of times it is very easy to strip and clean. Slightly different from my Sig as the slide lock comes right out but very easy and the slide lock doesn't stick any more. Still a very happy camper.

Wanted to chime in on this thread, as I've recently purchased a TS in 40 and am having mag-related issues:
- very hard/impossible to load all 10 rounds... two require alot of force to do this (using a lula) in which doing it to one of them binds up and bends that mag spring, with another one mag it's just not possible... loading 7 or so it does fine
- the mags are tight loading in and upon release one i have to manually pull out

Going to see what the store can do for me on this as I can only think of smoothing the inside of the frame and buying new mag internals.... not pleased as my shadow has been flawless...

Just a word on mags. I'm not a metallurgist but someone who is once told me that leaving a spring compressed to try and weaken it is a fallacy. Repeated cycles of compression and release are what weakens springs, not being held at one point of the cycle.

I had some trouble with this. I left the mags loaded for a week which helped somewhat but they are a bear to load. I can manage about 100 rounds before my thumbs give up. It is gradually getting better though.

Another update: I contacted dlask, the Canada warranty center, and they simply said there was a bad batch of mags that cz sent out (they didn't ask for my ts info) and to check back in two months to see if they've gotten their shipment of new mags from cz. I suppose I have to accept that I have an unreliable pistol until then. I'll try contacting the store I bought it from, but not sure what they can do about it at this point.

Can't you just buy a few TS mags?

I've been searching for spares across Canada and haven't found them. I did find a CGN seller/store who stated they had some for sale, but said they didn't work with some grips, which didn't make sense. I tried asking for clarification and didn't get a response back.

At $50 a piece I expect them to work. Mine do but it sure is tough getting the last couple of rounds in. I suspect part of the problem is the goofy 10 round Canadian mag with the plastic extender on the bottom.

As a follow up, I went ahead and ordered a few extra mags from the US along with aftermarket springs and followers. A few observations:
- the US 10 round mags (left) have different springs and followers that actually connect and stay together. Notice the thicker coils and less of them. No probs loading 10 rounds there.
- the aftermarket spring (middle) also has thicker and less coils, and the follower is thinner to create even more space. After cutting the spare coils to fit the 10 round mags, No probs loading 10.. even easier than the US stock (can't load 11). I was able to load this setup into two of my Canadian mags and they seem to be working fine now... the third Can. mag seems to have out of spec outer dimensions as it needs to be pushed up into the pistol and doesn't drop freely... will try and warranty this one.
- the Canadian 10 round mag (right) has thinner wire with more coils and the follower just sits on top of the spring... doesn't connect.

Next update. I have now put 400 rounds through my TS. Last 100 no problems whatsoever. Mags are starting to ease up a bit, still not easy to load but they no longer destroy your thumbs after 100 rounds. When I do my part I can do 1 1/2" groups at 10 yards. Basically blows one biggish hole. Not really a lot else to say. Works like a damn, shoots as straight as you could ever ask for and the break in seems to be done at 400 rounds. Next update 1000 rounds.

They are Great Guns and a hell of a deal for 800. got my first one for 1285 and a second used one from a friend with 6 mags for 700. the used one is an early model that had the conversion kit installed so it can use the regular cz 75 mags. I have 6 TS mags one of them has the spring like on the left in the photo. I use the mag loader that came with the gun so I can load all day long. These are no problem to load with the mag loader and you can load close to 10.5 rounds in it. I have had no issues with any mags with either springs. The only issue I have had was the feed lips spreading from dropping mags on concrete during practice/matches. once the feed lips spread out to .390 or .400 you will get nose up jams. I check mine from time to time or visually inspect. the bullet should sit at the same angle as the feed lips, if the bullet is at a higher angle then you need to get some pliers and bend them back into spec. I have 7000 rounds through my original gun now with no issues other then mags out of spec. Another think to watch for is the updated follower design has a ledge that sticks out a little for a more positive engagement with the slide stop on the last round. Old design did not have this and the mag catch could jam up against the side of the follower instead of being pushed up by it and engaging. New follower design fixes that. Or get a PCR slide stop which is a little longer and will work with both followers.
