Hi guys!
Just got a new rifle to try out. They are a nice looking rifle! The stock feels super comfortable!
Anyone out there have this rifle? What is your thoughts on it?
What do you like/dislike?
I plan to shoot Cast bullets as accurately as possible.
I will try jacketed later.

The .308 Win is probably the best caliber for cast bullets. You will get much better results and much less leading problems if you lap the barrel before shooting lead. Even though hammer forged barrels are not as rough as broach cut or button rifled, lapping pays dividends for lead bullet shooting in rifles.

Thanks for the thoughts guys!
I just finished glass bedding the rifle, putting a 25 MOA rail, and mounting a 6.5-20x40,Leupold VXIII.
Bore sited, moly coated the barrel, adjusted the trigger.......

Loaded 30 rounds of cast bullets. Spent 5-6 hours in my man cave today!

I may try that fire lapping process.
Has anyone tried it on gunnutz?

I fire lapped my old custom .308 when I was ready to fire cast bullets, that was more than 15 years ago. It is a Douglas custom barrel that had fired a few hundreds of 168 SMK loads through it so I don't know how effective the fire lapping was but I got minimal leading and didn't use moly coating either.

My initial tests are going to be with bullets sized to .309"
177gr.(170gr. Lyman mould). A hard linotype alloy.
I will try 1400-1900fps range to see if any leading occurs in this speed window.

If I try .310" sized bullets on my next batch, has anyone had any problems with cast bullets being sized to big?

One of my fav. cast bullet target guns is the same 700 in .308, my most accurate load to date with it is Lyman #311644 and Eagan MX-3 at around 2000fps, though all my .30 cals. have different cast bullet preferences, as my .30 BR. really likes the Saeco #315. You should be good to go to .310" or even more, as long as it doesn't expand the case neck enough that it won't chamber. One thing you will have to play with is Bore rider vs non-bore rider, and the diff. sizes of bore riding portion, again, every rifle has diff. likes and dislikes.....Ben

Fire lapping will smooth a rough barrel for sure. Barrel should be slugged from breech to muzzle before and after lapping bullets are fired to measure amount of improvement gained. I used the "NECO" kit, but strayed from the instructions. I used jacketed bullets, loaded to data for cast bullet velocities, with the fine compound only.
