Just Recieved My DAR22 :D

Im no stranger to the quality of Dlask parts as i have 3 of joes bull barrels(2x12.5" - 8") on my 10/22 builds, his rail kits, picatiny rails and multiple other items. I decided to dive right in and just buy one of his DAR22"s. Wow I couldnt be happier with it. When i originally ordered it i wanted it with a 16" bull barrel but some issus came about with materials and wait times. I already have a Ruger 10-22 VLEH target so i know how the heavy .920 bb feels. On joes advice I decided to go with his new 16" extreme stepped barrel on his word that if i wasnt happy i could exchange it for the full bull barrel at a later time. So glad i listen to Joe, as most of you that own of the dlask bull barrels you all know about the extra weight they add to front of the rifle. This barrel gives the rifle such a perfect balance im just in love with it. Because of my wait time he also thru in a free trigger job and tuffer buffer, things i usually do myself but after feeling this trigger i may have to go back to school on how to do them, this trigger pull is so much lighter than any of my other 10/22"s.

anyway couple quick pics just got all excited, take it home tonight and mount up scope and go try it out on sunday. im going to do some static bench shooting with both the DAR22 and my VLEH side by side so ill post pics later.

Hey Colin... very nice rig! I saw on Joe's website that he had brought out a stepped barrel... I am very interested to read your range report... if you have some, try it with CCI SV's for me, thanks.

Will do Greg. Im going to be shooting multiple 5 round groups with various types of ammo. Ive built a very sturdy rest for my rifles and they will actually be clamped in and completly static to take out any possibility of shooter error. Ill be testing the dar22 up against my VLEH at 50 and 100 yards and just for fun im going to also run my 8" dlask build just to see.
 
I would test fit an SV before firing a string. IIRC the extreme chamber doesnt like CCI ammo of any kind but I could be wrong. Looking forward to the range report!

I ask because they shoot very well in our four DAR22's... but I have heard mixed reports from others.
 
I', like'n the steped barrel.
Wonder what the weight difference between the bull and the stepped is.
I know my 10/22 became a heavy fker with the dlask barrel.
 
I don't the know the weight savings in digits but I can sure tell you when you shoulder the rifle it feels far more balanced. I was quite hesitant to take the stepped barrel but trusted Joe and from talking with him this is definetly his new focus on barrel design.
 
I love my DAR22. Thinking about another one now. Edit; just ran a 25 round mag of CCI SV through it with no issues. I'll group test them soon.

Nice rifle! I too am interested in one of his stepped 12.5" barrels to go with a DAR22 receiver I have lying around :). One question for you...I know the barrels come threaded, did your rifle come with a thread protector or did it come with one of DLASK's muzzle devices? I know his muzzle break is .920 in diameter and just curious how it would look with the .850 barrel.
 
Both my DAR setups like CCI Sub Sonics, couldn't find any SV's and the subs seamed to have almost the same specs with just 20fps muzzle difference.

FYI the 32gr segmented hollow points are just stingers with plain brass casings, their specs are exactly the same I have both and compared specs and side by side.

SV is a 40 grain solid round nose... Subsonic is a 40 grain HP;

CCI SV (0032)
22 Long Rifle
MV = 1070 fps
25y = 1019
50y = 977
75y = 940
100y = 908

CCI Subsonic HP (0056)
22 Long Rifle
MV = 1050
25y = 1003
50y = 963
75y = 928
100y = 897

Close is NOT the same, the difference in bullet design alone is significant... and an average differential of 20 fps, makes it that much more... SV's have almost always grouped better that the SSHP loads for us (one rifle did prefer the SSHP, in the interest of full disclosure).

Yeah I went back and edited my post, I was checking their website as you were posting, for some reason I was thinking those two were the same specs :reface:

I wanna pick up some SV's some day and try them.
 
One thing I did notice was with my 12.5" I was getting a first shot flyer, then after that a nice small group for the rest of the mag. I took it home and cleaned it but have not had it out since, the 16.5" no flyer. Both these are fresh builds, I hope the cleaning fixes the problem, as the 12.5" had some cheap break in ammo through it (was testing what would cycle trouble free) and only a quick clean after, so thinking that has to be the problem..
