I just shot a few rounds of trap with a 28ga and I'm very impressed with the capabilities of this cartridge.

I typically average 20-22 with my 12ga; many of the hits aren't very clean, mostly chips. With the 28ga, I averaged 17-19, but, I'm dusting the clays every hit.

I'm going to attribute my slightly lower scores to the atrocious 60-70km/h wind; it was so bad that some of the birds were actually turning over. I wouldn't be surprised if my cloud of shot was being blown away. In the 12ga, I'm using 1-1/8oz of #7.5 at 1200fps. In the 28ga, I'm using 3/4oz of #8 at 1200fps. Both guns have modified chokes.

Now I'm itching to try a 410... :D

Ha I love it. :cheers:Been doing it for years . Have not run them yet but many a 24. Try some 7 1/2 shot I find that patterns better for me and gives me a bit more range. I use a 870 wingmaster pump with a full or mod choke. Mostly full. Get on them quick. take care:D

When my 28 gauge sporting o/u finally arrived it went first to the trap field. My expectations were low. I ran the first 25.

No one was more surprised than me. 22 and 23 on the next rounds and I've never considered myself that hot a trapshooter.

The key with a 28 is to forget you are shooting a 28. It can and will hit those longer targets. :)

sporting clays

When I first got mine we went to shoot sporting clays and I only shot a 38 so went back to the 12 gauge a week later and shot a 39. Now only the 28 goes to range and with more practice (it has been many years and 3 eye surgeries since I shot skeet regularly) we will work our way back up.
Now 28 is my favorite hunting gauge for upland.

I shot my 28ga 101 on the trap field many years ago. The gun had 26" barrels choked IC/Mod. I used to shoot the Mod with 7.5's. Lots of fun. I don't recall it being much of a handicap. Targets broke well. Wish I had kept that gun, nicest grouse gun I ever owned.......

Love my little light weight single shot 28. Used to shoot skeet comps with it against semi 12's and was very competitive i think i could acquire targets faster with lighter gun. Great gauge for birds and bunnies easy to carry all day so light.

I shot a 25 and a 24 a few years back ( wobble trap) with my litttle fausti, which was a VERY light gun at 5lbs.flat!
it's a lot harder to shoot good trap scores with a gun that light, but it sure is fun!

A single shot would make doubles awfully hard wouldn't it? ;););)

Must be an ejector model...

yeah I shot double skeet with a single shot Harrington and Richardson topper 28 gauge(probably 30 year old gun). Had release by hammer when you press it barrel drops and ejects spent she'll over your shoulder held second in my left hand. You can close with a flick of the wrist. Yeah you gotta get that first one quick and be fast reloading

You need to use 7 1/2 shot and FULL choke for best results... At 27 yds It will still break 12-13 birds out of 25...so makes me think it is me, as it will break birds at that distance. chips mind you...no ink-balls............
