Just something about a Sharps

Georgeous rifle! And nicely posed. Shiloh or C. Sharps? If it's a Ped, it's exceptional.

Yes - the Sharps '74 has a cachet few other rifles can claim, save for the '73 Winchester.

I'm fortunate to have owned a Taylor's and Co Sharps in .45-70 for a year and a half, shoots and looks far better than I do. Also just picked up a 73 in .45 colt. Another beautiful gun, always liked my 92, but the 73 is just prettier.

Wow nice wood on your Italian! There have been some problems with soft sears. If it is working after shooting some, you likely do not have a problem. I will bet it is a pleasure to shoot and brings a lot of oohs & aahs at the range. Lots of people like to try mine out. Is it a 45-70? I looked at the Chippa in 22 Hornet, but build quality and old eyes stopped that :(. Thanks again for the picture, they have style as no other.

No, just saying that you have a nice rifle for probably 1/2 the price of a Pedersoli.

Ah I see! Yeah it looks pretty good. Took it out shooting the other day. Not a fan of the white dot on the front sight, kind of hard to see and I'll need to knock the sight over a little since it was shooting consistently to the left but it shot like a dream. People who say 45-70 has too much recoil really need to try shooting a Sharps :D

The people who object to the recoil of a 45-70 are those who insist on loading it to sub-.458 Win Mag potential with smokeless powder, then shooting those loads in Ruger #3 carbines and Marlin Guide Guns.

The 45-70 can run as they say, from mild to wild. My hunting load in a Ruger #3 is a 405 o top of 50grs of 3031. And yes it kicks but manageable. In my Sharps black and 5744 make nice light target loads. Just load to the level you need. (Targets are easy to kill)

Besides the looks of the Sharps you will also become attached to working the lever, hammer and set triggers. Sorta like working the gears on a motorcycle.

Love my Sharps. Of all the firearms I own, I could sit and stare at the sharps. There is just something.... not sure of the word, about them.
