Just starting - later in life

Since I was asked to make a post by the mod, I thought I would start here. I was told this is the site to watch when you want to find a good gun at a fair price.

I am a little older - closer to 60 than 50 - and just learning to hunt. But I have the addiction - as soon as the season ended I was looking forward to next fall. While I borrowed a gun this year, it's time to purchase my own. Fortunately, there is no shortage of opinions and advice! If you're on this site, you know what I mean. It makes me smile - even though guys know there is no "one size fits all" they still think they can make the decision for me.

But I've narrowed the options down and think I might find a 270 or a 30-06 that suits me.

And there there's the issue of a good pheasant gun... will it be the Benelli autoload, or maybe a Citori side by side. Or maybe I need a few shotguns.

In any case, I'm having fun learning and becoming competent shooting.

welcome!

as for your hunting rilfe either option would work well for most big game. I use a .30-06 my dad uses a .270. either of us shoots a deer it's dead. they are both a good pick.

you can't go wrong with a savage (my .30-06 is) or some people love the remingtons, i've never tried them. there is a million differant posts on here that will help you make a decision, but my advice it ot make firends with the guys at yoru range and see if they'll let you test out their rifles. from there you can decide which features you like and ar willing to pay for and wich you dislike or don't care about.
