Hey,

I took the black badge course this weekend at the Aurora Gun Club.

Was fun, though it was frustrating at times. The course was Friday night, and all day Saturday and Sunday.

There were some timed drills that I thought I would *never* get -- I'd either have one bad hit, or I'd be just a bit over on the time -- but eventually I managed to get through all of them.

Was cool to find out how fast I could actually draw a pistol and get shots on target. :D

BTW, I'm shooting a stock Para SSP (1911) single-action, single-stack, and I've got 6 mag holders. Not a real fancy kit, but it's been shooting well. I'll be in 'Standard' division, I guess.

Now I'm looking forward to getting out to my first match...

I just completed Len Kucey's Black Badge Course here at Phoenix, in Edmonton, also.

An interesting challenge, indeed! Reminds me of golf, in terms of the various possible game strategies, and post-game chatter! Only this is WAY more exciting than watching paint dry!

Congratulations to you both!

I still remember my Black Badge course and the high I felt afterwards, the good part is with this sport it just keeps getting better!

Be sure to take it slow on your qualifying matches. There will be a lot running through your mind, but make sure safety stays at the top of the list!

Also, be sure to involve yourself, help out at the matches or even consider becoming an RO.

Well done and DVC

Congrats guys. I also remember how cool I felt after the black badge course :)
Rob, I'll see you at the matches. Have fun !
Don't worry about the signle stack not beint the best set up, It's just fine.
It's how you shoot it that counts. I shoot single stack w/ some 10 rnd mags as well, & I do pretty good.

Well done ! I think that the Black Badge course is an eye opening experience for pretty well everyone who takes it. The focus on safety and speed is an awesome combination.

All in all, it makes for a very unique and satisfying type of competition.
- If you like an adrenalin rush, you'll enjoy IPSC. :D

I like the golf analogy with the shooting sports generally (that's why we have more than one firearm - who would limit themselves to golfing with only one club ?)

It was great and I remember the instructors as being very helpful and lots of humor. They are like the crack dealer, except they are dealing a very fun and challenging (yet safe), way to have a good time at the range. After your first time, you are addicted and crave more........LOL

I have only had the course and the BB for a year this summer. I have to say that it was both of the things I like best, fun and challenging.

Welcome to a great sport. The people you meet always have time to help you and never hesitate to lend a hand.

As the other said, CONGRATULATIONS! :D

Congratulations StraightShooter and nairbg. Welcome to the club, I know Kent and Len from both clubs and they are excellent instructors.

Enjoy the sport and see you at the ranges. :)

Did you use the old Black Badge Manual, or the new, improved 2006 Black Badge Manual? I just grabbed a copy of it, and I must say that it is a SIGNIFICANT improvement over the last one. Kudo's to Mark to doing a stellar job on it.

Look part way down for "IPSC Rules (Handgun)"

I think that hungrybeagle meant the new Black Badge Manual written and produced by DVC 1911 on behalf of IPSC Canada. not yet readily available One heck of an improvement over the old Black badge course book. Congrats Mark on great new Black Badge Book and demo/instructional pictures. Let's see if IPSC Canada will authorize the manual on DVD. As we all know in Canada, the Black Badge Course was originated and developed in Canada and is the standard by which everyone wishes to aspire, even though no one else uses one quite like it.
