Anybody know much about the so called depot riflles built from Gew 98 rifles during WW2. Did they cut off the original barrels or install standard k98 barrels. Also did they remove the Gew rear sights as well. I am trying to find out if a k98k stock will fit a depot rifle if possible.

IIRC k98 barrel & rear sights - it's a k98 with an older receiver. The GEW and k98 were sighted for two different ammunition types, so depot rifles would have new sights & barrels to conform to the new ammunition standard - .318" bullets until 1904(5?)

Got pics? Barreled action build or restoring a sporter? If it's a sporter (or a barreled action missing the rear sight assy) you'll want to confirm the barrel diameter so there are no nasty surprises when you shoot .323 ammo. Also, I thik the rifle should be proof stamped to the new standard.

If you are refering to the one on the ee, yes, its more trouble than its worth, esp with the reciever cut for a sight.. Might make a good repro sniper if the bore is good enough.
