I have been on the lookout for a K Hornet repeater, bolt that is, for my son and I to play with.

First, ideally I have been trying to find a rifle with a 20"ish barrel, nice wood, schnabel would be nice, fairly light in a bolt action with a magazine. Detachable or not doesnt matter. Model 7 type comes to mind. Classic styling and fit and finish are fairly important to me for this rifle, it's a father son thing. Something for him to use, carry, and start learning the art of reloading with, but also a fun plinker for me as well.

I had hoped that cooper would make one but no such luck. I would like the K Hornet for reloading reasons, but a hornet will do. Looks like CZ is about all there is out there right now in regards to new rifles. As for used, I will settle for a hornet, and if the rifle is too sweet I would not have it reamed to the K, but I would consider reaming if the rifle is a suitable platform and not so "collectible".

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I should be looking and what direction to take?

About the only rifle I can think of that meets your criteria is the Anschutz 1433 fullstock carbine. Unfortunately discontinued, and mine is not for sale. I do see them come up for sale now and then, expect to pay $1100 or so.

So does that mean if I offer $1,100.01 you might reconsider the sale? Lol

Sounds like a 77/22 is what I should be looking for, my neighbourly nutter and smith suggested that as well. I guess I'll have to find one to fondle....

Savage makes the Model 40 (dropped in 2013) and Model 25 in Hornet... CZ makes the 527 FS (Mannlicher style) and 527 Varmint in Hornet... and Ruger makes the 77/22 in Hornet...

Twere it me... I would either go with the CZ 527 FS or the Savage 25 Laminate, either pistol or thumbhole, your preference.

good luck in getting a CZ 527 FS Hornet! The only ones that have come up were the USA Kansas city ones Clay brought in last year. I too would love a FS 22 hornet, but it must come out of the CZ/Czchec plant.
2 years ago the gunshop I work at had an order for 50 of these rifles, but the order was cancelled by the factory as they would need a run of 100 minimum?
Getting back to the tthread I have both 22 hornet and a K-hornet, and find not much difference with the powders and bullets available today. If you want more velocity buy a 223 or a 17 hornet!
I would not feel bad in reaming out a Ruger or a new CZ 527 22 Hornet rifle, but please do not ruin a nice old classic Hornet, like the Winchester 54 I bought that had a K reamer job done to it!!
cheers Dale Z!

The K rechamber (like .357 Maxi etc...) is one of those easy rimmed-ream jobs with little metal removed... The only thing stopping you is a few bucks... If the Hornet fills a specific niche for you, then no point in doing it... But we use ours as predator guns and were willing to pick up 2 grains of pep... Two of our guns are for a specific type of hunting that we do and are part of a swap barrel rig with full-choked .410 bores... We carry these for weekend small game and predator treks... Something I have been doing with my son since he was four, like I did with my dad since I was four... But for more applicable reasons... The ream to K also came with increased accuracy IME, with the four I have done... Likely due to the throat being cleaned up. K's make sense for us... They give us just enough of what we need, while still being miserly with powder. The ' configuration has been around long enough and makes sense enough that data for reloading it is in most standard manuals in the "popular" caliber sections... And yes... A CZ FS would be a difficult find unless you just happened to be in the right place at the right time... A 77/22 would be easier and a Savage 25 easier yet. JMO.
