"Technical drawing Sunday... the Kar. 11 and 31 front sight!
Manufactured by the subcontractors Grisel (NE) and Schaffner (SO), this tightly-toleranced, small and intricate hardened chrome-nickel alloy part required many machining operations!
No real need to comment... the drawing speaks for itself.
Interestingly, one of my armorer colleagues recalled having to machine these himself as an apprenticeship project.
When I asked him how the process was, he stated: "It was pretty hard". How's that for humbleness!

Working as a machinist at the moment, that would be a serious pain to machine. Small parts are always difficult, some of those angles would be very frustrating and time consuming to make without a bunch of jigs set up to do it.

Thanks! I'll use this for a project to 3D print a new sight for my K11 to shift the 300M zero to 100M.... I was able to successfully do this on a Erma 22 I bought without a front sight. It's held up will under 22 pistol recoil.

I even made one with a Red center and black tip but it wasn’t as useful as I thought it would have been.

I've known many Swiss machinists, old and retired and young ones still doing their 5 year apprenticeship in Montreal machine shops owned by Swiss Canadians.
Doing !@#$ like this for free is how they become so good. :)

Btw, there were 20 variations.

Standard 1.8mm wide blade in 5 heights.
5.9mm marked -.
6.2mm marked -
6.5mm no mark
