Picked up a 1900 Swede M96 and a K31 from Tradex. My old eyes were telling me that my iron sight days were a thing of the past.

I found the K31 kick to be a bit nasty, so ordered the muzzle brake from Tradex. Worth every penny. Recoil is now less than the Swede mauser, but the muzzle bark is definitely louder. Wouldn't want to shoot this gun without GOOD earmuffs. Got the Swiss arms side mount scope mount from Tradex. Very solid and easy to mount. I added a cheap 1.5X4X Bushnell Trophy Brushscope that I had on an old shotgun. I've only had a chance to shoot the gun once, and it was a dirty 20kph windy day. Five rounds in a .75"group at 60yds, kneeling and using my ATV seat as a rest. Was using Privi FMJ ammo. This gun appears to be crazy accurate! Quite heavy - 9.6 lbs when the rig has a full mag in it.

1896 mauser - got an S&K mount for the gun. Great people to order from. Had the mount in less than 1 week, from the states. Rock solid, well made. Fits on top of the original rear sight base, and no alterations to the gun are required. Bought a scout scope from Wolverine - Hi-Lux 2X7X32. Saw the prices that Leupold and Burriss wanted for a scout scope and couldn't bring myself to part with $600. I've put 30 rounds thru the gun (S+B FMJ and Privi soft nose BT) and it's rock solid with no POI shift. Same windy day as the K31, but gun put rounds consistently into a .9" group at 60 yds.

I'd highly recommend both of these set-ups for these two guns. Both rigs will make awesome deer guns. Can hardly wait to try them at 100-200yds.

A suggestion on the K31 front scope ring and scope.
Loosen it up and move the front ring right up against the front stop on the 3/8" rail.
That way there is no way recoil can move it forwards. Trust me on this.

Is that grease on the botom edge of the K31 Swiss Products Scope mount?

Thanks Diopter for the scope tip. I'll move it up like you suggest. Yes - it's that Wasserfett swiss fancy grease. I bought two more tins of it recently. I've been using it on all my guns now. I read your head's-up on the grease deal, and immediately bought some.

I jumped in on guisan's swiss grease group buy after seeing diopter's post also, its my favorite gun cleaning product by far.

It looks like you might run into problems with eye relief if you try to move the scope rings any farther forward in order to butt up against the stop on that mount. You will have to try it out and let us know.

I have a similar k31 also purchased from tradex, using the same clamp on mount and a bushnell 7-21x scope. If you reload 7.5x55 do yourself a favor and try powders like IMR4350/Reloader 17 or similar. Look for bullets with an ogive shape similar to GP11. Berger and Sierra each make a 175 grain pill that is suitable. Use your favorite method to determine the OAL required to just seat the bullet just off the lands.

My best load to date was using berger 175 VLD ($$) and IMR4350, I am able to put 5 shots into a 1 inch group using the scope using this combo. I've also had "ok" results using hornady 168 grain BTHP and varget, bullets like these will need to be seated very deep in the case (ignore cartridge OAL's printed in reloading manuals).

You've got some very nice rifles there, M96 looks great. I don't have one yet but that rifles is next on my list.

Wow, they both look great, that scope mount for the m96 is genius!

Do you not have trouble with eye relief though? the m96 looks way too far forward and the k31 too far back?

Got the scope rings for the K31 at Accuracy Plus in Peterborough. Unfortunately, they didn't give me the packaging, and I'm not seeing any name on them. Re: scopes - the M96 scope is a long eye relief scout scope. It has a 14 "eye relief on it, like a handgun scope. Works perfectly. The Bushnell on the K31 is perfectly mounted for me. No closer to my eye than when mounted on my muzzleloader. Still a good 3.5" away from my eye.
