I`ve mentioned it to a few guys, they don`t agree with me. Do the Swiss K 31 rifles have a short length of pull or have my arms grew longer in last year or so? And all Mausers, Moisons etc feel right to me.
I remember the first time I pulled one in tight, fired the first round, cycled the bolt and thwacked myself in the nose with the safety ring. Feel fat in the wrist and short in the pull - I find my hand sits farther back on the wrist and I bring my melon in closer to get my sight picture. LOL now I'm going to have to get out the measuring tape...
The LOP is about 12.5 inches on mine. Good for me. I find modern sporting rifles a bit too long in LOP, some of mine 13 pushing 14 inches. The stock is "chunky" on the K31 but its my favourite milsurp to shoot because I get very good results with the stock iron sights. I put a 4X scope on one and shoot easier but not significantly better.
All the milsurps I have shot are some version of short. People were just smaller 75-100 years ago and the guns were built to suit. I am only 5'-9" but have long arms and prefer at least 13.5" LOP for rifles and 14" for shotguns.
For my milsurp shooting I tend to use a slip on Limbsaver recoil pad to add 1" to the LOP and take a bit of the sting out of those steel butt plates.
Don't forget that they still have to be shot by soldiers, from shortest to tallest in winter clothing along with summer uniforms. Easier to shoot if it's too short rather than too long.
