k98 7.62 conversion value

550 is a bit steep IMO.
If it was an original round, such as 8mm...perhaps 550 depending on the markings.
Not what you wanted to hear maybe, just an opinion.

If it was all original and close to matching #'s no problems even D&T'ed but as is, nope.

I'm in the same boat but mine is all original but the drilling and tapping from the past pretty much cuts its real value and potential as a collector.

That's an Israeli mauser. Sporterized and in well worn condition, it's worth about $200. Maybe less because it is drilled and tapped.

One like this would be worth in the $550 range.

Steve is correct in that it looks to be an Isreali conversion, which was then sporterised and D&T'ed...

If it was an Enfield treated similarly, you'd be looking at $75-$150. Maybe $200 for an exceptional commercial conversion. I would expect a similar sliding scale on the Mauser - although I'll freely admit I don't follow K98 prices as closely as I follow Enfield pricing.

Steve's attitude was a bit off-putting, I'll give you that.

Thanks for the info maybe worth just keeping it as the barrel is in excellent condition

Essentially you have a D&T Mauser action and 7.62 barrel installed and price for that is about $350 on a good day. Just go check hunting section. Many ex-military sporters around $250. Also I saw FN action without a barrel sell for $150.

If you de-sporterize it and add a new stock you'll have a solid IDF k98. They sell for $600-700 now in very good condition. $400-500 in fair.

You can treat IDF mausers as collectables in themselves, as they have a lot of history, but yours is drilled and tapped which makes it only suitable for repro sniper or keeping as sporter. Repro ZF-39 is about 400-500 USD.

550$ would be a reasonable price for an Israeli Mauser in original condition. Just like I don't think anyone would pay 600$ for a No4 drilled for scopes...
