Being new to Mausers , I am wondering , what favourite commercial ammo would y'all use for target or hunting ?
I don't see alot of mil-surp ammo either .

I've used Winchester SuperX ammo hunting, worked well. Bagged my first buck with the stuff. For target use, I've also used Igman ammo. It's a bit sooty and accuracy is adequate for the price. Most north american made ammo for the 8mm Mauser is underloaded , naturally reloading helps increase the performance.

As stated above I've used Igman SP, as well as Sellier & Bellot. THe S&B seemed a bit higher quality, and a bit higher priced. If you're hunting I'd go with that as you'll only ned one box anyway, it could even last you 20 years of hunting if you play your cards right ;)

It's too bad we dont have ANY surplus 8mm available to us up here, the US still seems lousy with it.

"...don't see alot of mil-surp..." You won't either. The 8mm x 57mm hasn't been used by any major military for 50 plus years. S&B and Igman is commercially loaded FMJ's. Surplus it ain't. They're both likely more accurate than any milsurp ammo though.
If you're not going to reload, you need to buy a box of as many brands of factory as you can to find the one or two your rifle shoots best.
"...you'll only ned(sic) one box..." You need more than that to sight in and to learn how the rifle shoots. Anyone who buys one box of ammo and doesn't sight in and pratice with it shouldn't be hunting.

Skip was talking about hunting ammo ...one shot , one kill ...lol
I use Win . Super X for other hunting rifles as well and they've always done what I needed them to .
I'll check out the S&B as well as Igman and get some target shooting in fersure .
Thx T

For commercial stuff, there is also Bell, which is European and loaded adequetely hot. It is comparable quality-wise to the Igman stuff, same manufacturer if I am not mistaken.

Most 8mm besides the Remchester commercial stuff is come and go, you will see it at gun stores or gun shows in limited qualities but nothing consistent. I picked up a couple boxes of '50's Yugo 8mm at a local gun store but there wasn't much there.

As Hitzy said, the only reliable source to buy now is at Districorp, for the Igman stuff. Good reason to reload it!!

I have neither the time nor patience to start reloading.

How about this: You reload MY ammo for me, and I pay you next to nothing for your troubles? :D
