I recently inherited a K98 and a AG M/42B rifle.
The K98 appears to be all original, has a sling and bayonet. Its dated 1941. The #s on the outside appear to to be the same, ie the stock and bolt and receiver etc. The gentleman that owned it mounted a leopold scope on the top of it but that seems to be the only modification. This site talks about k98s having matching serial #s. Do I have to take this gun apart somehow to check for further #s or can I assume if the outer #s are the same, that the rest of them are the same. If they are the same, can somebody give me an idea what I should list as a price as I have no wish to keep it.
As for the M42b, I have two magazines with it, the bayonet, scabbard and leather belt holder as well as a cleaning kit with it. The date on it is 1943. The #s on it appear to match as well. Same questions for it, should I take it apart to check for matching #s or is this important and what should I be asking for it as well?
Any help would be appreciated. If pics would help, please pm and I will forward pics to your email address. Not sure of how to post pics on this forum.
Thanks
Andrew
