Found myself with some free time and decided to spend some of it getting to know some of my recent purchases better. Waffenampts are easy enough to figgure out, however I'm having a little trouble with what I understand are subcontractor codes. Any input or a nudge towards a handy resource?

Thanks in advance.

That looks like a barrel blank batch code that should state the barrel blank number and year it was made. The WaA after the "Bo" will tell you where the barrel blank was made.

My guess is it part of the barrel blank batch number 87 made in 1939 ?? You should see the fire proof marking on the bottom on the barrel. Just curious, what is the year and maker stamped on the receiver ?

I have a similar marking on a barrel blank replacement for one of my Gewehr 98s used during WW2 though the style and application of the blank batch number and year are different. The barrel blank was made at Erfurt in 1939 thanks to the WaA identification. Another similar barrel blank marking is stamped on the underside of the barrel of my 1940 J.P. Sauer & Sohn and it too is different in appearance.

Here is very handy resource for WaA codes. I have been able to track a number of parts on my RC Kar98ks with this list and place rough production dates for them.

Wiki Waffenamts

At the moment, WW2 barrel production codes are out of my field of expertise but I hope I have helped a little.

A valuable collecting tool is the book "Deutsche Fertigungskennzeichen bis 1945, by Michael Heidler. This book was reviewed in Volume 32, No 2, 2010 in the NRA journal for American arms collectors: Men at Arms. It's on the book shelves now.
The book can be ordered from the author at Eschenweg 45, 89555 Steinheim, Germany or by email at ggbuch@web.de. It's $67 US dollars plus shipping.

Thanks guys.

Nabs, the rifle is a Steyer, receiver stamped 660 1940. There isn't a Waff in the same plane as the batch numbers, they're all on the sides/top of the barrel - four of them I believe.

I thought I would start with something easy before I started trying to figure out one of my R/Cs or Czech re-works.
