I feel like I know this, but have no way of checking at the moment and google has failed me so I'm checking on here.

On a good condition Gew 98, should a Kar 98 straight bolt fit and headspace correctly?
I read somewhere that most K98 straight bolts are in fact Gew 98 bolts, but it wasn't a particularly reputable source. I also know that many Gew 98's were cut down and made into K98's, so that's another factor towards being interchangeable, but if there's one thing I've learned, it's that assuming makes an a$$ out of u and mi! ( and possibly leads to kabooms... )

Check the headspace as you don't know how many Bubba's were in there in the last 100 years before the rifle made it's way to you.

It should fit (watch out for the intermediate length bolts from the M48s and Turkish M1903 contracts). Keep in mind, it may not be smooth or lock down given the manufacturing tolerances. I have a dummy round that I use for checking head space on my rifles and it has worked nicely on my Gew 88s.

The one I have fits just fine. I also have a Gew bolt that was fitted during a refurb into a K98. It bears the original number on the base of the handle and the new number on the side of the handle.

Put it into the rifle and give it a try, what have you got to lose???? This isn't rocket science. Even if the headspace is a bit close or over, everything will function just fine and safely.

From what I gather from your previous posts, you handload. Your cases will fire form themselves to your rifle and all will be well.
