Hey guys just a quick Q. Got a RC k98 recently, beautiful rifle that I highly appreciate having.

Anyways, im having a small issue im hoping someone can resolve for me.

The front sling band on my k98 comes loose quite easy and has lots of play between the disassembly button and upperhandguard/stock; Shooting or not. The front barrel band also likes to push forward a tad when the front sling band comes loose. Wondering what i can do to reduce the play. If the disassembly button was a touch longer by like a cm it would be snug with no play. At the end of they day its not making a big diff but would be nice to have it squared away. I apologize if my description is hard to follow lol.

Maybe try a different Barrel Band Spring (that's the part you are calling the disassembly button).

Or try shimming some paper under the bands for a tighter fit.

Maybe post some pics of the problem if you can.

The proper german armorer fix is to shellac a piece of stiff card to the top of the handguard tongue to take up the play. In plain english, get a thin piece of cardboard and use a very small amount of white school glue to lightly adhere the cardboard to the top of the handguard where the band will hide it when installed. Try to find older brown cardboard. You may need to experiment with thickness and length to get proper tension.

Tape, as mentioned, is an effective less-permanent fix.

I don't know if this will work, just guessing. Depends on "how loose" ... if the wood has dried out it will have shrunk a little, try oiling the crap out of it :)
