K98 information, advice needed.

I'm looking to purchase a K98 german mauser. Just a couple of general questions first. How reliable are those rifles. How accurate are those rifles with iron sights as well as with a scope. Is ammunition readily available?

Now to the gun. I have a chance to purchase rifle below for $400. The rifle does not come with any accessories just rhe rifle pictured. The seller have no shot the rifle and stated that bore is good and the bolt and matching bolt.

If I were to buy above rifle I would at minimum want correct sling and possibly a bayonet. I'm guessing the stripper clips would come with ammunition.
Marstar sell K98 for $399 that come with some post war accessories.
What do you think?

I have a couple, maybe I can throw in my two cents worth. They are very reliable rifles, well made and operate well in almost any climate. I think most K98's (with decent bores) will shoot 4" groups iron-sighted fairly consistently with milsurp ammo. If you handload, you could probably shrink the groups. Mauser iron sights take some getting used to, some like them, some don't.

Milsurp 8mm is out there but tough to find in Canada. Factory ammo, while underpowered from North America manufacturers (Winchester, Federal, etc), is readily available at any decent gun store. European ammo (Bell, Sellier and Belliot) is loaded hotter with better performance and is available here also. Stripper clips will not come with most ammunition, with the exception of some WW2 era German milsurp. Pretty hard to come by in these neck of the woods. Stripper clips are available in the EE forum from time to time or EBay though.

The K98 in your photos appears to be a Yugoslavian refurbished German K98, based on the serial number on the side of the stock. Some of the parts are actually matching from original German manufacture and some have been scrubbed and renumbered to match by the Yugo's. I have a Yugo K98 that I purchased from Marstar and it is fantastic. I highly recommend them for a shooter.

If the accessories are important to you, you are probably going to spend an extra $50 at least for a non-matching bayonet and repro sling.

Correct WWII German slings (not the post war stuff or repros), sell for over $100 U.S. and up, depending upon mfg markings etc.

Are Marstar's worth it then? I mean, when they say g-vg condition do they really mean very good wood and metal condition? I wish they had more photos of their rifles cleaned up and up close, anyone want to post some pics of their Marstar k98's?
 
I bought a czech 98 matching numbers for $295, bore is nice. Original markings ground off. WW2 bayo, good condition non-matching $75. A crappy matching one can be had for 30-40.
 
$400 is too much for that rifle. It's a fair retail price, but it's highway robbery for a private seller with no store overhead - JMHO.
