I'm looking a buying a k 98 mauser. The one I'm looking at his a byf 44. All the metal is matching except for the safety lever. And there are no markings on the stock. Is that normal for the year of mauser.
 
Matching is a term that may or not mean anything depending on your experience level. I've been again lots of "matchig" mausers only to see matching refurb numbers. Would need to see all the markings to know if it's original matching or not.

Technically it is matching, it is just not matching as it left the factory. Part of the problem with Milsurps, is different terms mean different things to different people.
