K98 Questions

1. How many of you K98 shooters use the standard leather sling? I always find that the frosch and leather tab on the right side of the rifle are irritating touches on my right hand.

2. Has anyone had experience with the K98 bayonets and repro slings sold by Marstar?

I have the leather sling on all my Kar98s. It does feel different than not having one but how I compensate for it is to pull the sling on the left hand side to the left. This pulls the sling tight on the right side and keeps the frog in the slot on the right side of the stock. I then re-grip the fore end of the stock with my left hand underneath the sling. You can even lengthen the sling and use it to help support your shooting. I tried this with a Finnish M39 and it worked like a charm.

The Germans did not teach the use of the sling for shooting, it was for carry only. I take the slings off my 98's as I find they get in my way.

I fire all milsups with slings attached, when I have them. I dont quite feal a difference between having it and not once I got a few rounds off the first time.
