I am having problem turning my safety position on my k98 to the far-right position- full safe mode. Was wondering if anyone is also experiencing the same problem as me. Is it just a standard feature for 1936 k98 rc or is there something wrong with the bolt.

Yes bolt must be cocked, but safeties were fitted, when the Russian mixed them all up, this function was of no concern, so you may have parts that don’t Work together.

What part do you think mostly got mixed up?

Both the safety and cocking piece are not working well together. As I recall correctly you can remove some material from the top of the cocking piece where the safety engages. Will have to consult the Mauser 98 shop manual if I can find it.

Edit:

My mistake. You file the safety to create a ramp.

Is your bolt assembled correctly...don't go shaving any metal and damaging your firearm before confirming that everything is correct. Sometimes full safe requires some man force with your fingers.

In the first two pictures, your safety lever is to the left (in the "fire" position), and the cocking piece is in the fired position. Safety will not swing up until the rifle is "cocked". In your second two pictures, the safety lever is straight up - the middle position. You should be able to open the bolt, when safety in this middle position. Safety is fully "on" when the safety lever is pivoted to the right - the cocking piece is held back and the bolt should be locked shut - should not be able to open the bolt with the safety in the fully right position.

Start with your first picture - open the bolt, pull it back, push it forward and close the bolt. The cocking piece should be protruding rearwards like in your third and fourth pictures. Your rifle is "cocked" and ready to fire if a cartridge were to be in the chamber. If the cocking piece is not protruding rearwards, it has failed to engage the trigger sear and you need to attend to that. If it is protruding rearward, you should be able to move the safety lever from the left position, to the vertical position, and then on to the right position.

As has been mentioned previously, you can not engage a mauser safety, unless the rifle is "cocked". In picture one and two your rifle is not cocked - the cocking piece is in the "fired" position - that is the "sizeable piece of metal blocking it".

The safety wing on a Mauser 98 is often one of the first pieces to wear out. The rotating surface can only be rotated so many times and if it has seen heavy use since it was made, you may be at the end of the life of that part. Funny thing, the safeties wear out faster on these rifles than the extractors. You may find yourself needing to weld the bearing surface back up and grind its profile back down to factory. A fiddly task at best.

Edit: just re read the OP and saw it is an RC, if its not original stamped matching just take your bolt to a shop or gunshow with a box of safeties and test fit them till one works.

When I bought my first K98K it was a total mix and mash like an RC, I also could not engage the safe though it would go into the disassembly position. The Safety and rear or the bolt were matched to eachother but not the bolt body. Because 98s are finely fitted together they are not meant to have most parts changed unless done by an armourer. In my case there was just a bit to much material and I just took it to a gunsmith and he shaved and smoothed it of a bit and now it works fine. It sounds like you have pretty much the same issue.
